Feeling Groovy Quilt...

Day 1

I have had these fabrics on the design wall
for a few weeks...

I am planning a birthday quilt for our youngest son.

Brad came out to the Thread Shed and looked
at the design wall and said,
"Feeling Groovy"

So I guess this quilt has a name and I haven't even cut
one piece of fabric for it yet!

for
Feeling Groovy Quilt

Today I pulled the fabrics off the wall and
started the ironing process...

40 different fat quarters

That should make a queen size quilt...

After all of the ironing,
I cut them into 8 inch squares:

Why 8 inch squares?
That is a good size to get the most out of a fat quarter

Plus, the designs are large, so I don't want to cut
the fabric into small pieces and lose the cool surface designs.

100+ Blocks

I am inspired by this Happy Hour Book.

Everything is all packed into a Pizza Box...
It is ready when I am.

Last week I dropped my Nikon camera...
on the floor....eek!
While I am seeking repair work,
I am using my old Olympus camera.
Glad to have it...

Design Wall.....Marcia Derse Fabrics - Lighter

Marcia Derse Fabrics
on the
Design Wall

Today the mailbox was full of more Marcia Fabrics...

Marcia personally cut fat quarters from her lines of fabric
and mailed them to me...
How nice is that!

I was in need of lighter colorways to go with the
darker Marcia Fabrics I already had on the Design Wall...

Here are 13 lighter fabrics:

I pinned them over the top of the darker fabrics...

That really brightened things up!

Now I am ready to begin my next project:

A birthday quilt for our youngest son.

Calypso.....Binding

Day 9

This morning I completed the
quilting in the borders:

This leaf vine in the borders compliments
the fiddlehead ferns quilted in the center of the quilt.

The wool batting has so much loft...
It enhances the quilting stitches.

Freckles is keeping me company today while I put
the binding on...

20 inch Square Up Ruler.....

This ruler is a MUST for squaring up quilts,
especially larger quilts like this one.

The binding is pieced, pressed and ready to go!

After the machine work is done...

I will find a cozy chair to sit and hand stitch the binding
to the back side of the quilt.

I might just have this done by Saturday?

More to Come~

Design Wall....Marcia Derse Fabrics

While I am finishing up the Calypso Quilt
for my oldest son...

I am auditioning fabrics for my youngest son's quilt...

These are a commercial line of fabrics
By Marcia Derse:

I decided to contact Marcia and get a few more lighter fabrics.
This palette is looking a bit dark right now.

Marcia cut the fat quarters I wanted and
shipped them out to me last week, so they should be
in the mailbox very soon!

This is the view out the front door this morning:

Calypso......3 Rows to Quilt

Sunday Morning...

Day 7

I came out to the Thread Shed to get a few hours of
quilting done on the Calypso Quilt.

When I opened the curtains,
the sunlight cascaded beautifully across the quilt:

This is what wool batting does for your quilting...

Lots of yummy texture !

Fiddlehead Fern Motif

Check out the difference between the
Un-Quilted vs Quilted Blocks...

By noon.....only 3 rows left to quilt on Calypso

But, that will have to wait until tomorrow.

I am off to town to bring the baby quilt to the Mama:

I am pleased with the texture that the fern motif
is providing...

It's all ready for the baby shower tomorrow!

What's wrong with this picture?

Rather than think one of the hens is slacking...

I like to believe she is giving it her best effort!

Calypso Quilt.......Fern Quilting

Time to focus on quilting the Calypso Quilt:

Day 5

The fabrics have a tropical flavor so I decided to
quilt ferns...

The Dry Erase board is a favorite for trying out new motifs...

Another FUN tool:

BLACK Dry Erase Board...

Neon Markers...

Makes me want to do a black quilt with Neon Threads

Time to sit down at the Sweet Sixteen:

Fern Quilting...

The ferns add a great texture to the quilt:

Now...I need to put down the camera and get busy.
I am hoping to have this ready for my son's birthday next weekend.
Wish me luck!
