Sketch Book....Feathers w/Filled Spines

More Feathers from the Sketch Book

Lately, I have been having fun filling the feather spines:

This spine has 2 sections....they are filled with bubbles

This spine has 3 sections....they are filled with clam shells

This spine is filled with wiggly lines

This spine is filled with the candy ribbon design

It is FUN to draw out different designs to fill the spine!

I have lots more Filled Spine Designs to share...

Shaving Cream Printing on Fabric...

Today I am prepping for a class on Thursday...

Shaving Cream Printing on Fabric:

I haven't played with this surface design technique for a few years.

I forgot just how much FUN this is!

I tried an egg beater to mix the colors.....

Dyeing to Design Class...

I saved some of the black gradations I dyed last week for the class.

I decided to try something abstract this time:

It was therapy sewing just to cut the fabric into strips and

piece it back together again...

I cut the strip set into skinny strips...

I pulled out a design board:

I used the two darkest gradations for the background...

I see trees...

I like the way it looks at an angle.

Here are the 2 studies I did with the black gradations:

I tend to work with vibrant colors in most of my textiles.

I learned a lot from removing colors from the equation and

working with only shades of black.

Next is Lesson 2.....Dyeing the Color Wheel

Dyeing to Design Class...

I have gone back to school...

I am taking an online class at Quilt University

Dyeing to Design

Lesson 1

Dyeing Gradation.....Black Dye

I am happy with the gradated fabrics.

Elizabeth's dyeing instructions were very easy to follow.

I cut the dyed fabrics in half.

I am saving half for an abstract quilt design.

The other half I am screen printing.

I like Versatex Inks for Thermofax Screen Printing

The screen printing was successful.

I am heading out to the Thread Shed to see if

I can put a little quilt together with these fabrics...

Design Wall:

Fabrics: Dark to light

Here is the completed quilt top:

Birds of a Feather

Tomorrow I will use the rest of the black gradations

for possibly an abstract design.

That should get me all caught up and ready for Lesson 2.

I am a bit behind in the class because of

the Thread Shed remodel.

Thread Shed.....New Floor....DONE!

Day 4

I put all of the textile painting supplies back in their cupboard...

My supplies have outgrown the cupboard

but it will do for now.

Everything was unloaded from every cupboard

in here, so we could move them across

the room as we put down the new floor:

This is a neat old kitchen cupboard....quite vintage.

It holds a lot of supplies...

The doors close up and the clutter is gone.

This is an old armoir that was my son's baby dresser.

I refinished it for him 27 years ago

It also holds a lot of supplies, but hides the clutter.

3pm.....hauling tote boxes out to the store room.

I want to make a skirt for the table in the center of the room.

I need to store my sewing machines under there,

and a skirt will hide them.

The Big Board is all set up...

Big Board    65 x 30 inches

Brad built it for me 10 years ago.

5pm......I swept the is the Grand Tour:

Right side of room....

Storage Cupboards, Cutting Table, Bookshelf

Gunnr's bed is back under the sewing machine....he snores a lot!

Cutting Table 2 across from the sewing table...

Media Cabinet, 8 foot Design Wall and Sweet Sixteen Machine

Thread Shed.......20 x 16 Feet

2 days to lay the wood flooring

2 days to put everything back in place

I will spend a lot of happy hours here this winter!
