Baby Quilt...

Ponderosa Charm Squares

Back in March I pulled out these charm squares

and stitched together a Moda Love Star Quilt

top for our neighbor who is expecting her

first baby...

It's time to get it under the needle...

I am stitching on my HQ Sweet Sixteen

Sit-Down Long Arm today...

Our neighbor and her horses

are all expecting babies very soon...

A horsey quilt for a horsey girl !

I have made several of these Moda Love Quilts

and they are so much fun and a great way

to utilize precut squares of all sizes...

Beautiful horse fabric for the back side.

Time to get the binding and label on

and get this to the new mama.

Horse Quilt...Done !

" Unbridled "

72 x 56 inches

The horse quilt is the same as the

pillows on the couches.

It's good to have it done and enjoy it

in the living room.

We had 5 newborn calves this morning...

They are all strong and healthy.

This is Althea Red

She is one of our oh so beautiful heifers.

She isn't showing any signs of calving just yet.

We check on the cattle several times a day to

see if any of the mamas are in labor yet.

Sometimes they need our help having their babies.

Horse Quilt...

Remember this horse panel quilt top?

It has been sitting around long enough...

time to get it....under the needle !

It is a fair sized quilt, so I will quilt it

on my Big Girl Machine...

Handi Quilter Sweet Sixteen

This is a Sit-Down Long Arm

and I love it for larger projects...

I used the Handi Quilter Wave Ruler

to quilt the center of the panel...

I used the Hand Quilter Ditch Ruler

for all of the straight line quilting...

To mark the spine of the feather,

I used my very favorite marking tool...

Ultimate Marking Pencil

You just iron it off...

The white line disappears with heat...magic!

Close-Up view of Quilting:

The 20 inch square up ruler

works best for trimming and squaring up...

Ahhh...the rough edges are gone !

Now I need to paw through the fabric cupboards

and find a binding that works...

I will send another image when this is

hanging on the living room wall.

Horse Quilt Top...

I took this off the design wall...

It is time to put this quilt top together...

I piled the quilt blocks and

flying geese units on a design board

so they can travel easily to the machine...

It took a bit of measuring and fudging

to get the quilt blocks to fit nicely

along the sides of the horse panel...

The flying geese units

were a bit of a chore to get them to fit

the quilt and keep all the points pointy...

I had to do lots of fudging on the seam allowances

to get the flying geese borders to fit...

We are ready for the final borders...

After auditioning too many fabrics,

this distressed brown fabric made the cut...

That final dark brown border really

makes that light inner pieced border just shine !

It is good to have this off the design wall

and all pieced together.

I am hoping to have some time after

the holidays to get it under the needle

and get some machine quilting done.

Horse Quilt....Borders

I have always been fond of Flying Geese...

Such a simple quilt block that creates

such a big impact in our designs...

Flying Geese units add lots of movement

to this horse quilt panel...

they get along well with the

rest of the quilt blocks...

I am still in the design phase,

nothing is stitched in place just yet...

The color story is working...

I am stitching holiday gifts right now.

I will stitch them and

look at this on the design wall.

It will let me know what else it needs.

As for these two little cowgirls...

they were bred and born here on our place.

I have known them since birth.

Buttercup and Eleanor

I love them so much !
