Crosscut Quilt.....Idaho Retreat

I am attending a Quilt Retreat in

Rathdrum, Idaho

at Twin lakes

Lots of Autumn color in Idaho

This is my home away from home

for the week...

I brought along my crosscut quilt...in progress

I also brought along a Bernina 801

I found last summer in

Mitchell, Oregon at a thrift store.

This is our trial run together...

I have pieced 135 Crosscut Blocks:

I am sewing them together...

This is my first quilt top....light

I am now piecing my second quilt top....dark

 2nd quilt top.....done

I hung them over the railing

for a beauty shot...

Time to cut them apart:

The blocks are 9 inches...

I am cutting them with a 7 inch ruler.

Lots of abstract X blocks.....in the making

The blocks are all cut from both quilt tops...

light and dark.

Time to get them up on the design wall...

It was fun moving them around...

until I found something that appealed to me.

I am running out of design wall space...

13 rows up on the design wall....

Time to take these home to Oregon

and finish up this cross cut quilt....

More To Come!

Machine Quilting....Rulers and Free Motion

I have a warm up sandwich for playing with

Machine Quilting Rulers...

I recently played with the Flying Geese ruler...

Now, this is FUN!

I have also played with a few arc rulers,

then filled the areas in with

free motion motifs....

I think I am ready to try these rulers out

on a real quilt soon.

You can watch Jamie Wallen in action with

the flying geese rulers....CLICK HERE

Nobody told the flowers it is autumn...

This iris just bloomed today...

The roses out front are gorgeous...

The Dinner Plate Dahlia is.....stunning!

But, it really is autumn....

The grape leaves are

throwing so much color at us!

The October Glory tree..... looks like this:

The Pacific Sunset Tree..... looks like this:

I took this image this evening

as the sun was setting

on our West Fork Barn...

Autumn is here,

whether the flowers like it or not.

Sunflower......Curved Piecing DONE

I am attending a Quilt Retreat

this week with the

I finished the curved piecing on my

sunflower quilt top...

yahoo!

I took the quilt top outdoors for a photo shoot:

This was such a pleasure to create...

I will paw through the fabric cupboard

and find a hand dyed fabric

for the backing...

I am hoping to get this under the needle soon.

My friend, Linda, was working on her own quilt

right along with me...

Linda's completed sunflower quilt top

Time to celebrate getting our tops pieced:

lots of gorgeous color!

Pacific Sunset Maple Tree in the front yard...

It is also Cow Feeding

time of the year:

We moved the round bale feeders

out of winter storage...

and up river to one of the

winter cow feeding pastures...

Somebody must have rung the dinner bell ?

Cow and calf pairs started showing up

from all reaches...

Everybody loves a free meal...

We will feed every day for the next 8 months.

The spring calves have really grown:

They now weigh in at 500 pounds

February 2018....

This was our very first calf born this year.....

7 months later:

This is Calf 1

In between cow feeding,

I will try and keep my sewing machine

humming along.
