Friends at the Fence...

Look what's up on the Design Wall...

I have had this panel for close to a year now...

I put it up on the design wall...

then waited for inspiration to set in.

English Paper Pieced Hexagons...

on the table

Now, I am inspired !

Here goes...

The sky has a very soft pink

running through it...

I pinned up the light blue and pink hexagons

 along the sky.

At this point, the sky is blocked in

with blue hexagons.

I have started on the lower portion...

blacks, browns, rusts

to go with the horse colors.

I am getting goose bumps...

that means we are headed in the right direction.

I have decided the border treatment

will be 5 hexagons wide...

At this point...

I am about 4 hours into pinning up hexagons

I am calling it pinned !

Before I began,

I put 4 white strips of fabric around the panel.

The hexagons can now be pinned onto those

fabric strips, removed from the wall,

and I can take them with me for hand piecing.

Just guessing,

this will take me several months to piece.

I will keep you posted on my progress.

Go BIG.........or Go HOME

I haven't had much time with my

sewing machine out in the Thread Shed

 since calving season began

in February...

I have been hand piecing in the evenings...

English Paper Piecing

Just so you can get an idea of the size of these

paper pieced flowers:

Each hexagon petal is

nearly the size of my hand !

Go BIG.....or Go HOME !

These piece together fairly quickly...

I can stitch together 5 or 6 in an evening.

I have 13 done so far...

Not sure what I will do with them?

For now, I just enjoy looking at these BIG Girls !

Hexagon Table Runner......#3

English Paper Pieced.....Hexagons

I enjoy a hand piecing project when we travel,

so I am putting together a

take-a-long table runner.

After all of the paper hexagons are covered with

fabric, I put down a white piece of fabric and

arrange the table runner...

This is my third table runner,

and I still enjoy the process.

The pieces are all arranged,

but not sewn together just yet...

I pin each hexagon to the fabric base.

They will live on this fabric until they

are hand pieced together.

The fabric will not remain under the hexagons.

Once they are all pinned down,

this becomes a portable project and

the hexagons will stay in the proper order

for stitching.

Hexy Table Runner.....DONE

Remember this?

I started it back in February...

It was my evening hand piecing project,

I also stitched it while traveling to town...

Here it is 8 weeks later:

Ta-Done!

163 hexagons

There are 3 layers:

Hexagons
100% cotton Batting
Red Felt

I stitched invisible applique'

around the outside edge

with Superior Monopoly thread.

The felt was trimmed down to 1/4 inch

all the way around the outside edge.

It is on our table

and really brightens up the kitchen !

We are still in the middle of calving season.

Everything is going just great !

4 New Calves and Hexy Table Runner....

4 New Babies in the last 2 days...

This is Spot and her new bull calf Number 7

We now have 6 heifers and 2 bull calves

This is where you can find me in the evenings...

hand piecing the hexy table runner.

This is the back side...

all of the papers on the inside have been removed.

Straw Needles are my favorites

for hand piecing.

I am using 60 wt poly thread....barely shows.
