Improv Houses...

I was pawing through the fabric cupboard

and found these surface design fabrics...

Created with black thickened dye...

Check out what I wrote on the selvage...

I created this fabric with hand made

nature brushes and

thickened dye.....in 2018

Looks like it was FUN making this piece !

These circles were created with a

nature brush made from feathers...

This fabric was created by putting strings under

the fabric then rubbing over the top with

thickened dye...

I also found this soy waxed fabric:

I wrote on the fabric with hot soy wax,

after it cooled off and hardened,

I put it in a dye bath.

I also pulled a few commercial fabrics

from the cupboard...

All of these black and white fabrics need

some RED...

These are some of my

low immersion dyed fabrics...

This is what I will be playing with:

Left......Red Low Immersion Hand dyed Fabrics

Center......Thickened Dye Surface Design Fabrics

Right......Commercial Fabrics

This is my set up:

I will be sewing lots of little seams,

so I set up the felt ironing pad to my left,

cutting mat in the center,

sewing machine on the right...

this helps me work efficiently.

Here we go:

I am creating improv houses...

keeping it very basic

Red hand dyes for the background behind

the improv house...

A wonky house...

The hand dyed fabrics work well

in this design...

This house is wide at the top...

narrow at the bottom

Like potato chips...

can't stop at just one !

This is working....I'll make more !

Each house is different...

Looking forward to adding to this little village

sometime soon...

Soy Wax....Fabrics

Last week I spent the day stamping

hot soy wax on fabric...

I started out with a

commercial batik fabric...

Using a found object,

I stamped hot wax on the fabric...

Then I painted over the waxed fabric with

purple setacolor textile paint...

When dry, I heat set the paint with an iron:

All that is left to do is wash out the wax

in a hot washing machine.

The shadow marks on the fabric will be

washed away in the washing machine:

These were SUPER FUN to create!

I am anxious to put them into a project soon.

Soy Wax......Class Prep

The table is set for.....FUN!

I am soy waxing fabric today...

I mainly stamp with.....Found Objects:

Potato Mashers......always a favorite

Hand Cut Sponges.....also a favorite

This fabric was stamped with a hand cut sponge

then painted over with turquoise textile paint...

This is what it looks like after it is

heat set with an iron...

It needs to go in a HOT washing machine next.

This was also stamped with a hand cut sponge

I use diluted textile paints

I used a box fan to dry

the waxed and painted fabrics...

it takes about an hour for them to dry.

This was my favorite piece of the day...

This will definitely end up in one of my quilts

It was a great day of soy waxing...

I am all ready for class on Thursday!

The goats were down by the river last evening...

This is Long Ears.....she is a beautiful boer goat

She is the boss....the rest of the goats

don't make a move without her.

The three nanny kids on the left are bred...

we should have new kids in the spring.
