Snowflakes...

I was able to squeeze in some stitching and

finished up the last of the snowflake blocks

Intricate piecing that could only be

done by paper piecing these blocks...

The snowflakes show up really well

against this putty colored background fabric...

Every snowflake is different...

18 snowflake blocks

It took 2 days to rip all the papers off

the back side of the blocks...

The inner border has been added to the panel...

Close up view of inner border...

sparkly snowflakes

The bottom snowflake border

is stitched into place...

The top and bottom borders are on...

Hoping to get back out to the Thread Shed

soon and put the side borders on.

We have a new square bale feeder...

It holds a ton of hay in a single feeding.

The cows like it !

We weaned the baby calves last week.

Always hate to do that, but the mama cows

need a break before they have their new

calves in the spring.

Pumpkin Placemats & Cattle...

Farmhouse Pumpkin Placemats

When I saw the pattern for these

pumpkin placemats,

I had just the fabric...

I keep a few yards of black & white plaid fabric

in the cupboard for bindings...

These went together quickly...

Lots of FUN to create !

They are a gift and already out the door !

You can find the pattern here:

We have been feeding cattle for

a few weeks now...

Seems like we just baled up this hay in June...

The cows know the sound of our pick ups

and meet us at the feeding grounds...

Everybody shows up for breakfast each day...

This is sweet, little Goldie with her

calf  "cocoa puff",  the grands named him...

She is a little cow that raises

great, big steer calves !

This is Doll Face...

Oh, how I LOVE that girl !

Cleaning out the Calving Barns...

Our fleet of manure spreaders are

hooked up to the tractors and

ready to go to work...

We are cleaning out the two calving barns

we use in March, April and May...

The cowboy is  on the Ford tractor

scooping  out the barn and

loading up the spreaders...

We are working across the river from

our home place...  off in the distance you

can see our red goat barn and my Thread Shed.

By the time I return with an empty spreader,

the Cowboy has the next spreader filled up

and ready for me to spread on the pastures...

We just keep tag teaming all day

until the barns are all clean and ready

for next calving season.

You can view videos of the Cowboy

and I cleaning out the barns on Instagram

Snow Horse Panel...

A new fabric panel is on the design wall

Horses in the snow...

I am making a few snowflake blocks

to see if they will work as a border treatment...

This is the back side of the snowflakes,

they are foundation paper pieced...

I would never attempt these

if they weren't paper pieced.....eek!

Lots of intricate cutting and piecing has

been made simple by paper piecing...

It takes about 8 hours to

paper piece each block...

I just put on a DVD series,

relax and sew...

I take my time and enjoy the process...

When I am not sewing

I am with the Cowboy making hay...

The mowing, raking and baling are done...

we are now picking up the bales

and storing them away for the winter.

We picked up 100 bales today

in 95 degree heat.

Paper Piecing...LOVE

I am still having a lot of FUN trying out

different FPP blocks...

Last week I made this LOVE block...

This is a beginner level FPP...

I am using fabric scraps leftover

from quilts I made last year...

I have never done ABCs...

It was great FUN to see the letters

come alive...

12 inch  LOVE block...

I couldn't resist...

6 inch LOVE block

The daffodils are blooming

below our Century Farm sign...

This is Althea Pink...

still waiting for her to have her calf.

The Cowboy feeding a new bale

in the bull field...

There are 7 bachelors that belly up

to the hay bale each day...
