Sparrow......Alzheimer's Priority Quilt

This is the little Inktense Portrait
I finished yesterday...

I thought I would finish it today and donate it to
Alzheimer's Priority Quilt Auction

is planning an exhibit of
Alzheimer's Priority Quilts this summer.

The back side is just as pretty as the front...

After machine quilting... it is time to bind it:

I am couching a braided cord for the
Edge Treatment.

This quilt would be overwhelmed with a regular binding.

Detail of Braided Cord Binding Treatment

Sparrow
8.5 x 11 inches

Alzheimer's Priority Quilts
should be no larger than 9 x 12 inches

Back Side of Sparrow:

A metal picture hanger sewn to the back will make
it easy to display this little birdie.

Alzheimer's Illustrated........Purple Name Quilt

The quilting is complete and this is in the mail on it's way back home.

I chose a fine gauge thread for machine quilting:
Superior Thread So Fine!
I did not want the stitching to obscure the names

Machine Quilted Vine

On this Sacred Ground I chose to quilt a vine...
We all grow on the vine of life.

Quilting.......on Sacred Ground

The Mail Man delivered a Package today...

From Heartbreak to Hope
Purple Quilt Project

This package contained purple strips of fabric with names signed on them.

The purple strips were sewn together and measure 7 feet long

I do not know the people whose names are on these strips, but I feel a genuine closeness to them.
They have all been touched by Alzheimer's

Charlotte H. of Waldwick New Jersey

I was born in New Jersey

Thelma V. OBrien Bergenfield, New Jersey

I was raised in New Jersey and most of my family lives there today.

Louis Petix Bronxville, New York

I lived just minutes from New York

Myron S. New York City

School Field Trips took me to the Statue of Liberty, riding the ferry in the New York Harbor, and to the museums of New York.

Ted Lannigan of Seaside, Oregon
Margurite Miller of Phoenix, Oregon

I have called Oregon home for the last 26 years.

These names are important to me.
I feel as if I am on sacred ground.

I have been invited to quilt this 7 foot purple quilt.
It will be part of 118 purple quilts in a new exhibit:
Alzheimer's Illustrated
From Heartbreak to Hope

As I quilt on this sacred ground, I will choose my stitches thoughtfully and treat this quilt with gentle hands, as I know there is another quilter out there who is also quilting one of these purple quilts which contains the name of my grandmother, Helen Fusco of New Providence, New Jersey.

Shave Your Legs & Raise Money For a Worthy Cause

This little 9x12 inch journal quilt is part of a fundraiser started by professional quilter, Ami Simms. She created The Alzheimer's Art Quilt Initiative www.AlzQuilts.org I had a few class samples hanging around my sewing studio, and decided to donate them to Ami's worthwhile effort. Now, with all that Ami has to do, she is such a busy lady, I tucked a note inside the envelope with my journal quilts and asked her NOT to take the time to email me and confirm that she had received the little quilts. I have confidence in the post office, and Ami doesn't need to send out yet another email confirmation. Instead I requested that she take this extra time and shave both of her legs! Well, my note did not work.......instead I received a touching email from Ami herself, explaining that she had shaved one leg and was looking forward to shaving the other. So, to those of you out there who have time to shave your legs, please take the time to make one of these tiny journal quilts and donate it to Ami and her Alzheimer's Art Quilt Initiative.
