Apple Core Quilt....DONE !

I began piecing this apple core quilt top

in Jackson, Wyoming in 2009...

I stopped at a quilt shop in Jackson,

purchased the template and fabrics

and began cutting out apple core shapes...

I spent the next year stitching on the GO !

with the applecore quilt

as my take-a-long piecing project...

Hand Piecing while traveling

is so relaxing and rewarding...

I spent the last week putting the finishing touches

on the Apple Core Quilt...

Here it is on our bed.....DONE !

I had FUN incorporating a few Kaffee Fassett

fabrics into this quilt...

The binding and label are all DONE !

All those curves make me happy !

It is wonderful to finally see this completed

and on our bed !

Spring has finally arrived in Western Oregon

Tulips are in full bloom...

The chickens are busy eating all the

insects and slugs in the flower beds...

They also make beautiful yard ornaments...

This view is just outside the front door:

I don't have far to go to get to the

yellow Thread Shed

where I do most of my stitching!

Yo Yo.....Hand Piecing Project

How much FUN are these ?

I have been making Yo Yos

for the last year or so...

I started stitching them together:

In the evenings I enjoy hand stitching...

I also take these along on road trips.

In the evenings I need some extra lighting

and this works very nicely...

It hangs around my neck and really

lights things up !

I carry the yo yos with me in this tote bag:

It is hand painted canvas

that I stitched together

to make this sturdy tote...

For now, everything I need fits inside.

As the yo yo top gets bigger, I will need to

switch to a larger tote bag...

I will keep stitching in the evenings...

and we can watch it grow !

Big Flower Quilt.....Progress

Remember this Big Hexy Flower?

I chose these 4 lime green fabrics
for the background hexies...

I put the light green background hexies
up on the design wall with the BIG Flowers:

they look NEON green......eeek!

After looking at this on the design wall
for the last 2 months, I took them all down.

I found a richer, calmer green fabric
and wrapped it around the hexy papers:

Ahhh....much better.

There is a bed sheet under the hexagons.
They will be pinned onto the sheet.
Then I can keep them in order as I
hand piece the hexagons.

This is a bed quilt and will finish

102 inches square.

Lots of hand piecing for these cold winter nights.

English Paper Piecing....BIG Flowers

Remember these JUMBO fabric flowers ?

The flowers were created with some
leftover hexagons from the quilt below...

I pieced two of these quilt tops three years ago.

I had orphan fabric covered hexagons
in the bottom of my sewing box.

Here it is three years later
and I am stitching on those hexagons again.

I have 30 hexy flowers finished so far...

I decided on lime green hexagons for the background...

Four different shades of lime green...

I cleaned off the design wall and started
pinning up hexagons...

I think the lime green is working
in the background...

A few more hexagons on the wall...

I am trying to just slap them up on the wall
for now....the tweeking will come later.

I started to tweek them, but I am tired.

We spent the early morning fixing electric fence.
A herd of elk ran through the electric fence that surrounds the newly seeded hay field.
Our bulls took advantage of the fence being down
and tromped all through the wet and muddy field.

It is 6pm and I am calling it a day...

It is good to see the hexagons up on the wall...

When I have more time to play,

I will rearrange them, possibly cull some of them

and maybe even make some more.

Wishing you all a good evening.

English Paper Piecing and Tractor Work...

In the evenings I have been doing

some hand stitching...

English Paper Piecing.....Hexagons

Batik Fabrics

These are jumbo sized Hexagons:

They are very large and
the stitching goes quickly !

I spread them all out on the floor tonight
to see what colors I need...

The chair helps you realize
just how BIG these flowers are !

8:00 this morning:

The Cowboy is hooking implements up
to the John Deere tractor...

The ground has already been plowed and harrowed.
The roller packers are hooked up today.
They compact and press the soil down and
prepare it for seeding...

This is how I spent my day

Three implements
stretched out behind the tractor...
Long Load for sure.
I tried very hard to turn tight corners and NOT
wipe out any of the fence posts.

The bulls kept me company all day.

This is Clive.

He is a Shorthorn Bull

and clocks in at 2,000 pounds

Yes, he is a TON.
