Passing the Torch...

Every Quilt has a story...

She carefully chose the flannel fabrics.

I asked her, "what do you want to do with these?"

She replied, "I want to sew all the pieces together

to make a quilt for my bed."

I cut the flannel fabrics into squares

and she pieced them together...

I told her if she finished the quilt top,

I would quilt and bind it for her...

Over a period of 2 weeks,

she stitched together seam after seam

until she thought it was big enough for her bed...

Then she went home

and I carried on with completing the quilt...

I backed it with with the flannel that

she chose for the back side...

The quilting is done and I am

squaring up the corners...

It is ready for a binding...

The lavender binding is finished...

The flannel quilt is all done...

This important quilt is documented with

a label sewn onto the back.

It is her first quilt.

She has been sewing since she was 4 years of age.

She loves to operate a sewing machine

and hopes to have one of her own someday.

As a quilter of more than 30 years,

I believe I have passed the torch.

Bench Pillow....Finished

This was a FAST and FUN project !

Bench Pillow...

Yo Yo Flowers...

I used Superior Monopoly thread to applique'...

It is nearly invisible

The rubber boots are my favorite !

The backing is Petal Power fabric...

I made an envelope style back so the

pillow insert slips in and out easily...

I know someone with a big, white bench...

just in time for Mother's Day !

Bench Pillow...

It is SPRING here in Western Oregon

Before summer arrives,

I thought I better get this project done...

Bench Pillow...

My first love is free motion quilting...

can you tell I had loads of FUN

stitching the background of the pillow ?&*

I have the applique' all traced out

on the fusible web...

I am auditioning fabrics and trim

that might work with the blue flower fabric...

Nothing is ironed down yet,

but this is as far as I got for today.

I am hoping to get back to this soon

while it is still SPRING !

Vintage Lone Star Quilt.....

The walls are freshly painted,

the new carpet is installed

and the new bedroom furniture has arrived...

It is time to put a QUILT on the bed...

This is a vintage Lone Star quilt I discovered

in a thrift store about 25 years ago...

My grandma's 1903 Singer Treadle machine

sits by the window...

Our new curtains are back ordered,

which will give the Cowboy time to put in

the new window sills and moulding.

This 1930's quilt is hand pieced and

magnificently hand quilted...

unfortunately, the maker did not sign her work.

Our bed is a queen

and this quilt is more suited for a double bed size.

It is Spring here in Western Oregon

and this quilt is just perfect for this

time of year !

Happy Spring !

Machine Quilting on Flannel...

Someone I know needs a quilt

for their baby dolly...

I found a hunk of flannel and spray basted

it together with some cotton batting

& flannel backing:

3 bobbins later, it is done!

This was so much FUN...

I got my free motion quilting fix !

The flannel gives lots of definition

to the stitching...

Now to trim off the edges

and stitch on a binding...

No need for a hand made binding,

this ready made bias tape will do the job...

Back and front sides...

All ready to wrap up a baby doll !

We have a new rooster...

He is magnificent !

Improv Quilt Top.....Progress

I am making progress on this

Improv Quilt Top:

I completed the top last October

while attending a quilt retreat in Idaho

The top is pieced from my hand dyed fabrics.

These are improv blocks I played

with back in the Spring of 2020...

I incorporated solid strips of fabric

to calm the piece down a bit...

Just love the luscious lime borders...

I pawed through the fabric cupboards

and found this blue for the backing...

I plan to hang this quilt, so I chose

Quilters Dream Green batting.

The quilt will hang straight and flat on the wall.

I have decided to do wavy line quilting:

I have quilted wavy lines

every 6 to 8 inches apart

across the top of the quilt...

this essentially bastes the layers together.

I will continue adding more wavy quilting lines

until I decide it is done...

I am out of time,

so this is as far as I get for now:

This will have to wait until another day...

Our mama cows surprise us

with new babies each day...

This is Golden Girl with her baby GoldiLox...

a chip off the old block !

We only have a couple of cows that

throw this beautiful blonde color.
