Bear Paws...

I am making Bear Paw Blocks this week:

Bear Paw Block

I am using them as a border treatment

for this High Horses panel...

Here is my fabric pull for this project;

Green Background Fabric
Assorted Brown Fabrics

I chose this Bear Paw pattern because it offered

cutting directions for a 7 inch block...

It also gave directions to make

8 bias squares at once...

I assembly line press the bias squares

then use a clapper to keep the blocks flat...

I use a Bloc Loc ruler to trim the

bias squares to the proper size...

I trim them on a mini mat

so I can turn it easily while trimming,

never having to move the actual bias square...

I also lay the block pieces out onto a

flannel design board to keep them

in the proper order...

Once on the flannel board,

I can transport the pieces from the

cutting table to the sewing machine

to the ironing board...

Again, using the clapper to

keep the seams nice and flat after pressing

with the iron...

Bear Paw Block

I need 22 Bear Paw Blocks

for this border treatment...

This is the second time I am creating a quilt

from this High Horses panel...

that's a story for another time.

I have been posting new cattle videos

Horse Quilt...

Remember this horse panel quilt top?

It has been sitting around long enough...

time to get it....under the needle !

It is a fair sized quilt, so I will quilt it

on my Big Girl Machine...

Handi Quilter Sweet Sixteen

This is a Sit-Down Long Arm

and I love it for larger projects...

I used the Handi Quilter Wave Ruler

to quilt the center of the panel...

I used the Hand Quilter Ditch Ruler

for all of the straight line quilting...

To mark the spine of the feather,

I used my very favorite marking tool...

Ultimate Marking Pencil

You just iron it off...

The white line disappears with heat...magic!

Close-Up view of Quilting:

The 20 inch square up ruler

works best for trimming and squaring up...

Ahhh...the rough edges are gone !

Now I need to paw through the fabric cupboards

and find a binding that works...

I will send another image when this is

hanging on the living room wall.

Moda Love Quilt....Machine Quilting

It is time to get this Moda Love quilt

under the needle...

I am machine quilting on my

Handi Quilter Sweet Sixteen...

My Big Girl machine !

This is a sit-down long arm machine...

Above the machine are dark blue clamps.

They hold the quilt up so there is no drag

while I am quilting.

You can see the blue clamps holding up the quilt.

These purple Gypsy Quilter hoops

help grip the fabric...

On the back side are the purple rubber grips...

they really work !

You hang on to the sides and move the

quilt in any direction while quilting.

I have had them for many years.

I feathered all of the triangles

and straight lines in the squares...

Swirls in the narrow inner border...

Scallop templates for the border quilting...

Handi Quilter Scallop Template

They come in all sizes and shapes...

Scallop quilting in the border...

A few hours later.....all done !

The edges are trimmed and squared up

and ready for a hanging sleeve and binding.

We woke up to a world of white today...

Feeding cattle in the snow...

After the cattle are fed,

the Cowboy walks through the herd

to check if any of the mama cows

are close to calving yet.

Little House Table Runners...

I meet with my local quilt group

on Mondays...

The last several Mondays I have been

creating Little House Table Runners...

They are a great deal of.....FUN !

They require very little fabric

and they are fusible applique'

so they go together rather quickly...

They are small and easily fit under the

sewing machine for machine quilting...

This striped fabric from the stash

makes a great binding treatment...

I am nearly done with this one...

The last step...adding the binding.

All DONE !

That feeling of completion is wonderful !

I have completed 5 table runners on Mondays...

they should make great holiday gifts.

We are weaning calves soon

so I won't have much time in front of

my sewing machine this week.

More To Come...
