Calypso.....on the bed

This is the Calypso Quilt I made for our son
last month:

We stopped by his apartment today.
He wasn't at home....but his bed was made...

I think he likes his quilt...

He's been sleeping under it...

It looks even better on his bed!

My work here is done!

Calypso.....Binding

Day 9

This morning I completed the
quilting in the borders:

This leaf vine in the borders compliments
the fiddlehead ferns quilted in the center of the quilt.

The wool batting has so much loft...
It enhances the quilting stitches.

Freckles is keeping me company today while I put
the binding on...

20 inch Square Up Ruler.....

This ruler is a MUST for squaring up quilts,
especially larger quilts like this one.

The binding is pieced, pressed and ready to go!

After the machine work is done...

I will find a cozy chair to sit and hand stitch the binding
to the back side of the quilt.

I might just have this done by Saturday?

More to Come~

Calypso......3 Rows to Quilt

Sunday Morning...

Day 7

I came out to the Thread Shed to get a few hours of
quilting done on the Calypso Quilt.

When I opened the curtains,
the sunlight cascaded beautifully across the quilt:

This is what wool batting does for your quilting...

Lots of yummy texture !

Fiddlehead Fern Motif

Check out the difference between the
Un-Quilted vs Quilted Blocks...

By noon.....only 3 rows left to quilt on Calypso

But, that will have to wait until tomorrow.

I am off to town to bring the baby quilt to the Mama:

Calypso Quilt.......Fern Quilting

Time to focus on quilting the Calypso Quilt:

Day 5

The fabrics have a tropical flavor so I decided to
quilt ferns...

The Dry Erase board is a favorite for trying out new motifs...

Another FUN tool:

BLACK Dry Erase Board...

Neon Markers...

Makes me want to do a black quilt with Neon Threads

Time to sit down at the Sweet Sixteen:

Fern Quilting...

The ferns add a great texture to the quilt:

Now...I need to put down the camera and get busy.
I am hoping to have this ready for my son's birthday next weekend.
Wish me luck!

Calypso.......Borders & Basted

I made it back out to the Thread Shed Yesterday:

Day 4

I am auditioning border fabrics for the Calypso Quilt

I decided on green fabrics:

I pulled a few greens out of the cupboard to see if
any of them would work...

Border Fabrics on left side:

I decided to go with a lighter shade of green.

I can't be too choosy as I live a distance from town,
so need to rely on what is in my stash...

I found 4 lighter green fabrics...
Each side of the quilt will have a different border fabric.

I went right to work adding the borders:

With Borders the Quilt Measures
96 x 96 inches

I have 4 days into this quilt so far...

Today I took the Calypso Quilt Top down to
the community hall to get it spray basted:

The blue batik fabric is for the back side of the quilt.
I am using yummy wool batting.
My sister helped me get it all spray basted.

Tomorrow I will get it under the needle and begin
the machine quilting...

Gunnr wishes to thank ALL of you who sent your well wishes!

He is recovering nicely from his surgery.
He knows first hand how comforting a
Quilt can truly be.

Calypso......New Design

10 am
I walked into the Thread Shed...

Day 3

This is what the quilt blocks looked like on the design wall:

I started playing around with the extra blocks on the table:

I like this vertical design...

So I moved all of the blocks around on the design wall:

This appeals to me.
I will continue with this lay out...

I pieced 51 more key hole blocks today.

Look what the mail man delivered today:

Extension Table for my Featherweight 221

I put it into use immediately:

Lots more surface area to work on.

CLICK HERE to find out more about the table.

One of my students made me this pincushion:

It's great when I am moving back and forth from the
design wall to the sewing machine.
I always have my pins where I need them!
Thanks Kathy.

Did you get your 2012 Quilting Arts Calendar?

It's time to turn to the month of February...

Guess who is Mr. February?

This is Gunnr, our Calendar Boy!
I just love his face...
and so did everyone at Quilting Arts Magazine!

13 Rows Pieced so far...
I need to add 2 more rows.

It is 6pm and I am quitting for the day:

There are a total of 160 key hole blocks.
I am using 105 for the Calypso quilt.

That leaves 55 leftover blocks.....I am thinking lap quilt.

More to come...
