Green Quilt......Binding

Day 8, 9 and 10

I spent day 8 and 9 machine quilting...

12 hours to get this quilted...

The quilting went very quickly...

I quilted lots of straight lines and squares...

My favorite guy requested simple, masculine quilting...

which translates to no girly feathers on this quilt!

Here it is Day 10.......Binding Day!

Omnigrid 20 inch square up ruler...

Trim up perfect square corners.....every time!

I used all of the leftover green fabrics for the binding strips:

450 inches of binding......ready to be pressed...

I am ready to sit down and get the binding stitched on...

This coffee can method helps feed the binding flawlessly

onto the quilt......works perfect every time!

The binding sits between my feet:

By 5:00 the binding was on and it was time to go in and fix dinner.

Green Quilt.....Basted & Ready to Quilt

Day 7

I started this quilt last spring...

I haven't touched it since July....eek!

It is now basted and ready to go under the needle:

Green & White Quilt  109 inches

Time to audition thread:

I spooled all of these threads out onto the quilt surface.

I am hoping to find one that blends with the white and the greens.

This creamy yellow thread will work for the top...

Sulky PolyLite 60wt
Made in Italy

Thread for the back of the quilt:

This is Yellow thread, but reads brassy in this photo.

It blends nicely with the yellow and green backing fabric.

Top and Bottom Threads

Sulky PolyLite is a newer thread on the market.

It is light weight and doesn't attract too much attention...

Just what I am hoping for.

I have been playing with quilting motifs:

Since this quilt is for my favorite guy, I am trying to keep

the quilting masculine.

I always make a few extra blocks so I can play around

with some free motion quilting:

The creamy yellow thread blends in beautifully with the

white and dark green fabrics

Testing out threads gives me a chance to warm up my

quilting fingers!

The bobbins are filled...

The tension is adjusted just right...

I am all warmed up and ready to stitch...

The quilt is on the Sweet 16 table...

The table is 6 feet wide...

This is where I will spend the rest of the day:

I am thinking 3 or 4 days to get this quilted.

More to Come!

Green Quilt......Piecing the Top

Day 6

I started piecing these green and white blocks back in April...

They were put aside the last couple of months.
I have been itching to get back to them!

I began piecing them this evening...

Estimated size is 108 inches square

The darkest blocks will go around the outside edges,
creating somewhat of a border treatment.

The quilt top needs to be put together in
block sections,
rather than rows, to make the design work.

This is a FUN one!

More to come...

Hydrangea by the Thread Shed:

These are a lavender blue color...

 There are also pink blooms:

Always happy to share the beauty!
Feel free to use these images in your personal art work.

Green Quilt.....Trimming the Blocks

Day 5

I am in the hay fields today...

The rain here in Western Oregon has put a damper
on the hay making.
The sun is back today, so we are raking and baling.

Last night I pulled all the Green Quilt Blocks
off the design wall...

Green Quilt

It is time to get them trimmed to size...

80 Blocks  6.5 inches

40 Blocks   12.5 inches

Once the hay is in the barn...

I can get these blocks up on the design wall
and get this quilt top put together.

Green Quilt......Progress Report

Day 4

I am still piecing green and white quilt blocks...

40 Large Blocks and 75 Small Blocks pieced so far:

Notice the Pizza Box.....is almost empty!

These are free cut Wonky Style blocks:

There is lots of trimming after each strip is added to the block.

I do not work alone today:

Gunnr is hard at work under the sewing machine.....asleep.

I will post more images when I begin putting the blocks
on the design wall.
