Trying to beat the RAIN...

 Today is the day...

The RAIN is coming tonight

The Cowboy has the drill

hooked up to the John Deere.

The drill is what seeds the field...

He has the fertilizer spreader

on the International...

The fertilizer will give the field the nitrogen

it needs to give it a boost through the winter

and get it growing fast in the spring...

The trailer is loaded up with grass seed

and fertilizer bags...

We loaded about 250 lbs of seed in the drill...

I can drill the seed in a couple of hours,

then come back and fill it up again...

I am ready to climb on board

and get this field planted.....woohoo !

I am not alone...

The Cowboy is in the next field fertilizing:

5 hours later...

The field is planted and the pasture is fertilized.

The RAIN is coming at midnight

and the fields are ready for the moisture.

I am ready to spend some time

listening to the gentle hum of my sewing machine.

Rolling, Packing and Flowers...

I think this is Day 12

working up the hay field...

I have put about 100 hours behind the wheel

of this green beauty in the last two weeks...

This is a really comfortable seat...

it is air ride with shock absorbers,

I barely feel the bumps !

The 3 orange levers

make the tractor go forward and back.

The 3 black levers

make the implements on the back

do what they are supposed to do....

This is the view from the driver's seat...

The Cowboy has the

roller packers hooked up...

I spent about 10 hours today packing the soil

down to get it ready for planting.

The RAIN is coming and we are trying to beat it !

This is the view when I came home this evening:

The setting sun is

lighting up the front flower bed...

Blue hydrangeas are turning pink and purple.

The hydrangeas are just as beautiful

in the autumn as they are in the summer...

The roses are giving us their last days of beauty...

Ooooh....I just love me some back-lit leaves !

The setting sun really shows off these peony leaves !

Flowers and Farming...

It is October...

the Dinner Plate Dahlias

are putting on a show !

Pink Dinner Plate Dahlia

Orange Dinner Plate Dahlia

Purple Dinner Plate Dahlia

It feels like October...

It is 40 degrees this morning

when I climb on the tractor...

The sun is up,  the fog is rising...

Fog lifting off the field...

The Plowing is all done...

time to knock down those plow rows

with the harrows...

I am pulling two harrows...

twice the work in one pass over the field.

I am not alone today...

in the next field are a few cow and calf pairs

to keep me company.

The 2 Black Steers are my bottle babies...

hard to believe they are 4 years old and

weigh in at 1500+  pounds.

Donkey Tote Bag...

This is a commission...

Donkey Mare and Foal

I was given this panel and told

"do something with this."

I turned it into a tote bag

I kept the quilting simple...

the darling donkey and foal are the main focus.

Such a beautiful digital print...

I put some of my rust dyed fabric on the back...

Lining and Leather Handles...

I just fell in love with this

while I was stitching it together.

Guess What?

I found both of these panels on Etsy !

They came in the mail today.

Yes, I am making one for myself !

Moonlake Fabrics sells these on Etsy

You can order the panels in different sizes.

These are 16 x 16 inches.

Improv.....Zip Case

The rain ran us out of plowing the hay fields

so I am taking the day to play !

I think this was my Improv 6 technique

that I was playing with back in 2020...

Free hand cutting and curved piecing...

I made about 6 feet of this

and there it sat...

I pulled it off the shelf,  cut off a hunk of it

and made this zip case:

Improv Zip Case

Side 1

Side 2

Interior.....Blue Squares Batik

I squared up the bottom

and added a leftover zipper end on the side.

This was great FUN !

I had an itch to stitch

and I scratched it !

As soon as the field dries out

we will run the harrow and packer over it

then it will be time to drill it...

the end is in sight !
