The Bull Field...

The bulls have been apart all summer.

We have just put them back together

in the bull field where they will spend

the winter months together.

They have been apart so long that they

need to do some pushing and shoving to decide

the pecking order!

My sweet boy, Fernando....
he is a lover, not a fighter.
See the white heart on his forehead?

  1. So many hearts on your boys!! One of the guys (the red one) who was shoving on the Angus has a little heart on his left flank! Fernando is flashy!! How fun the are!! Cowboy must keep great breeding records to make sure the girls are covered by someone other than dad. People who don't farm or work with farm animals have no clue just how much work goes into farming. Your work is never done!!

    1. The Cowboy plans out the breeding strategy every Spring. We sort off different cows in different fields and put specific bulls in each field for breeding. I am the secretary in the family, so I write it all down in the log book for reference. The Black Angus bulls breed the first time heifers each year for ease of calving. It is a team effort to keep it all straight and get it all done in a timely manner. Then, we count off 283 days to see when the first calf will be born.

Thanks for your always great comments,
