  1. I have never seen a sheep sheared! Thanks for sharing. You didn't say what they do with the fur. Got a video for that? LOL

    1. Pamela.....fur.....you are so funny! It is wool that is sheared off the sheep, also referred to as fleece. The fleeces, when sheared properly, comes off all in one piece. The wool is cleaned and used for everything.....spinners and weavers love it.

  3. Isn't normal sheep shearing time in the spring? I would think the coat needs to be thicker during the winter so they can stay warm. Maybe they'll need some quilted coats this year?? I can't believe how quickly they can be sheared and how docile they are while it is going on. Is that a dark patch of skin on her left shoulder or did she get cut? I really couldn't tell.

    1. Sheep are sheared twice a year, every 6 months. Once in the summer and again right before they have their lambs, usually in January.....this helps the newborn lambs, the fleece isn't in the way when they are trying to find mama's milk.

  4. Hey LuAnn. How come the sheep came to your house? Do you have some, too? I have an alpaca friend that shares her shearer with other alpaca farms. Same for you? Th anks for the info!

    1. Hi Maggie, After 100 years of raising sheep on the Kessi homestead, we are out of the sheep business, just raising commercial cattle these days. We still have lots of sheep shearer friends. Hooked up our neighbor's sheep with a sheep shearer friend.
