Quilting Sketch Book.....Filling Space

What I find useful is practicing ways to

fill a given space with quilting...

The space is SQUARE

I drew a curvy line and filled the square

with plumes...I stuffed it full!

More....SQUARES:

Draw a line through the square...

Then fill the entire space with plumes.

In the bottom image:

I divided the square in half horizontally

creating 2 triangle shapes

then filled each triangle shape completely.

You can fill a space with any shape...

a circle, triangle, rectangle, etc.

Look what's blooming by the Thread Shed:

Hollyhocks

They just opened up today...

I love the center star shape in every Hollyhock

The morning sun is shining on the back side

 of the bloom

to create a glow from the front of the flower.

Life in the Hay Fields:

Brad continues to bale the second field...

  1. I like your filling in the squares. (Sorry, don't know how else to say that)
Those Hollyhocks are gorgeous! Such beautiful colors.
You live in such a beautiful place. It looks like you put in so much work to keep it beautiful. Where do you find the time for everything?

  2. Hi Claudia,

Many thanks for your very kind and thoughtful comments. The secret to making time for everything is.....I don't watch TV. I gave it up 10 years ago and it has been the best thing I have done to help me be more productive.

  4. LuAnn - I just this past week bought a sketch book. I am a traditional quilter, but want to expand my free motion machine quilting. I am one of those "I can barely draw a stick figure so how can I do intricate feather work on my quilts" but just the tiny bit of doodling in the sketch book has helped.
You have a beautiful area - you have mountains and sky, I have ocean and sky - we have to take time to look at the glorious!
    Glad I found your blog.

  5. Hi Mary,

Your words ring so true for me. I also cannot draw a stick figure, but I do it anyway. I hope your sketch book brings you joy! Keep at it, it will become a habit to pick it up daily and doodle.
