We can go for years and never have a set of
TWINS...
TWINS...
Yesterday we had our third set of twin calves.
Their mother is a 1st time heifer...
heifers rarely make much milk.....sigh.
We have them sorted off into a smaller pasture
so we can keep an eye on them for a few days
to be sure the heifer is caring for them.
The goats peeked around the corner of the barn
to see what all the commotion was about
while we were sorting off the new twins.
We have 5 heifers left to calve.
Then we can put this calving season to rest.
I captured a video of the heifer
and her first calf...
and her first calf...
we did not realize she had a twin
until the next morning....ugh.
until the next morning....ugh.
Twins are no fun....yes, more time and work. It is better to have a big single calf that you can turn right out with the mother. Twins need extra attention and you end up with 2 small animals. A single is always best.

Congrats again! Really enjoy the videos.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the video - always fun to see the what's happening on the farm! Maybe there's something in the water producing all of these twins! Let's hope this mama bonds with both babies.
