Medallion Star Quilt....Progress

This has been my Wednesday project

for the last 5 weeks...

I meet with my local quilt group on Wednesdays.

We laugh and have a great time together

and sometimes I get some stitching done too !

By the second Wednesday,

I was making these strip units...

It took several Wednesdays to complete

all 20 of these units...

Today I began putting the top together

on the design wall:

The center medallion star is 20 inches square...

It is FUN watching it grow...

I do love an  "on point" setting...

Next up.....Star Blocks

This will be a queen size quilt and

requires 40 stars.....yowza !

9  1/2 inch stars...

5:00  This is as far as I went today...

More to come next Wednesday.

Baby Chicks...

There are new baby chicks

running around in the yard...

Mama Hen spent the month of July

sitting on eggs...

August 1st...

three baby chicks hatched out !

Today is their first day venturing out

of the hen house and into our yard

to peck at the grass and bugs...

Mama Hen keeps a close eye out

and keeps them protected at all times...

We are having FUN watching them

scratch around and imitate

everything Mama Hen does.

Summer Color...

Summer Color from the Flower Beds...

The flower bed just outside the front door

is beginning to bloom...

State Fair Zinnias...

Pink Star Lilies...

Oh, so fragrant !

They are in full bloom all around the door

of the Thread Shed...

Pink Coneflowers...

Butterflies love these !

Hollyhocks...

I just love the center...

looks like a star.

Plant hollyhock seeds in the autumn...

they will bloom the next summer.

They just adore southern exposure...

they are drought tolerant

and don't require watering...

They are prolific and re-seed

themselves every year...

Drunkards Path...X Blocks

Playing around with some

Improv X Blocks...

I am trying find a border treatment

that will compliment this

Drunkards Path quilt top...

So much color on the work table...

I have arranged the drunkards path blocks

in circles...

The X Blocks add straight lines

to offset all of those circles...

The more I make...

the better I like it.

I need more!

Wapiti....Wedding Quilt

I began stitching this quilt 4 months ago...

It started with an Elk fabric panel...

I added a light inner border to

brighten up this dark panel...

added a second green border...

then I began assembling 9 patch blocks

and decided to set them on point

to add some movement to the quilt...

in July added the two final borders...

blue tree fabric and yellow tree fabric.

Last week I got it....under the needle

of my Handi Quilter Sweet Sixteen Long Arm...

I took it for Show 'n Tell

to my local quilt group this week:

They helped me with a quick photo shoot...

the very sunny day bleached out the colors

a bit but you can see it in its' entirety...

This was created as a wedding quilt

for our friends who live along

The Big Elk River...
