Whole Cloth....Machine Quilting

The Design Work on paper is complete...

This is all 3 layers of the whole cloth design...

Layer 1.....Basic Design Lines

Layer 2....Feather Motifs

Layer 3......Fill Work

Now I am ready to

transfer the design to fabric:

I am using a light box...

blue pen to trace the design onto fabric.

The basic design lines are all I need to trace...

Now to baste the quilt sandwich and

get it under the needle.

The basic design lines are quilted...

Now I am ready to

free motion the feather motifs....

I am moving right along with the

feather work....

I know you will be asking what these are?

I found this set at the thrift store

a few months ago...

they are wonderful for free motion work!

They really grab the fabric with very

little pressure from my hands.

The feather quilting is done...

Now it is time to begin the fill work...

The fill work compresses the background down

and

makes the feathers pop even more....yummy!

Lots of micro stitching in the fill work....

The fill work is complete...

all I have left to do is the border areas.

Ralph and I are ready to call it a day...

it is 7pm and we want our dinner.

By the way...

Good night from Ralph and I...

We are working yearling cattle today

so I won't be sewing.

I will post images of the complete

whole cloth quilt soon.

This is my first attempt @ whole cloth and

I am liking it a lot.

Whole Cloth.....Design Work

I have been playing around on paper

doing some design work for a

whole cloth quilt I am planning to create...

Tracing Paper over the top of a

9 patch quilt image

This is a design technique from

2nd layer of tracing paper over the top...

filling in with feather motif.

3rd layer of tracing paper over the top...

trying out a few fill designs and edge designs.

I am working @ a slower pace than I would like...

Ralph insists on helping

with the design process.

This is my second attempt

at a whole cloth design:

First layer of tracing paper...

drawing in the basic design lines.

2nd layer of tracing paper...

I love feathers so here they are again!

As soon as Ralph is done with his nap...

I will draw in the fill work.

Here are the last images of the tulips:

A storm moved in and finished off the tulips...

Henny Penny looks like she wants to sew

in the Thread Shed today...

I am hoping to work a bit more on the

whole cloth design on Monday.

Life @ the Goat Barn...

I took my camera along to the goat barn...

We are feeding nannies and kids

this morning...

This is Lily

Her mama, Long Ears, is my favorite goat.

You can see that Lily inherited her mamas

beautiful long ears.

We are still in the calving mode...

a dozen cows left to calve yet.

This little white face calf makes me smile...

one black eye, one white eye.

This is the second set of twin calves...

They are several weeks old now and out in the

 pasture with their mama.

These are the last images of the tulips

in the yard:

The morning sun and evening sun

make for terrific back-lit photography...

I am working on a whole cloth quilt project...

I will upload the design images soon.
