Whole Cloth.....Design Work

I have been playing around on paper

doing some design work for a

whole cloth quilt I am planning to create...

Tracing Paper over the top of a

9 patch quilt image

This is a design technique from

2nd layer of tracing paper over the top...

filling in with feather motif.

3rd layer of tracing paper over the top...

trying out a few fill designs and edge designs.

I am working @ a slower pace than I would like...

Ralph insists on helping

with the design process.

This is my second attempt

at a whole cloth design:

First layer of tracing paper...

drawing in the basic design lines.

2nd layer of tracing paper...

I love feathers so here they are again!

As soon as Ralph is done with his nap...

I will draw in the fill work.

Here are the last images of the tulips:

A storm moved in and finished off the tulips...

Henny Penny looks like she wants to sew

in the Thread Shed today...

I am hoping to work a bit more on the

whole cloth design on Monday.

  1. Wow. Very impressive FMQ design layout. I've not yet taken a class with Lisa Calle, but have been wanting too for awhile. Your post just inspired me to make it happen ASAP. Glad to see Ralph is helping. He does come up with some great ideas, after a catnap. And Henny Penny certainly wants to help peck out a sweet design too! What fun.

I've never done a whole cloth piece--i don't do much machine fancy quilting--just straight lines and wavey ones...this looks like it will be lovely...hugs, Julierose

  4. Don't you just love Lisa Calle's classes and techniques?? Your whole cloth quilt will be lovely!! Where do you find the large tracing paper? Your tulips were so pretty...how rude of a storm to come through and flatten them!
