Orange Peel/Pumpkin Seed Quilt.....Progress

Last month I started this circle quilt...

my nickname for it is the Pancake Quilt.

Don't they look like piles of pancakes

on the table?

There are 120 pancakes

This will make a large lap size quilt.

Today I am quilting the pancakes:

The template has 4 holes...

you mark the holes on the pancakes.

You draw an X on the pancake...

Now you are ready to quilt the pancakes...

Before I can begin quilting...

Ralph, the Quilt Palace cat, needs some scratching.

The walking foot helps keep the layers from

shifting and helps me keep a straight line.

I am a factory style quilter...

so I am feeding the pancakes through

assembly line style.

I completed more than 60 pancakes

today.....progress!

More next Monday.

Calving Season......2016

Our first calf was born last week...

We have Shorthorn mother cows and Angus Bulls

This calf was born yesterday...

Minutes after the calf hit the ground my favorite guy

is checking it over...

He checks to see if it is a bull or heifer calf...

He treats the navel with iodine.

The goats watch from the field nearby...

The goats will begin to kid soon.

We are across the river at the calving barn today.

From here we have a view of the back of our place....

The sun came out briefly and really lit up the red barn.

The black yearling calves are grazing along the river bank.

These calves were born this time last year.

After checking on the newborn calves, it is time to

load up hay for the yearling cattle...

Here comes the rain again...

We are back at home again:

This photo was taken from our back yard,

looking across river.

The two big white barns in this photo...

that is where we were checking on the new calves

earlier today.

After dinner I put together a few necklaces

from some of my art beads:

I made these beads a few weeks ago...

I am fond of making those chunky bird beads...

These were painted with black paint and

then I rubbed the paint off.

We are already seeing a few spring birds that

have migrated to Western Oregon.

Spring is coming early again this year!

Jewelry Table...

During the day you can find me....

or at the Quilt Palace.

In the evenings I am creating jewelry:

This is my portable jewelry table...

You can find me here in the evening making

necklaces, bracelets and earrings...

Everything I need is right at my finger tips...

These zipper bags keep all the little items in one place...

This bag holds all the larger cords...

This bag holds the smaller cords....

This bag holds all the metal jewelry findings...

This bag holds all of the jewelry pliers....

This bag holds wires and more cords...

At the end of the table are all of the bead boxes...

commercial beads and my hand made art beads

I work with a beading board on my lap,

so I can just reach over and get what I need

off the jewelry table....

I am not a TV watcher,

but I can bring the table into the living room and spend

the evening with my family while they watch TV.

The jewelry table is easily moved into the back bedroom

when I am not using it.

Last night I pulled out commercial and art beads

to see what inspired me:

I have been into making large hearts from clay lately...

I made a heart necklace with a skeleton key...

The bead and jewelry muse

really has a hold on me right now...

this stuff is really piling up...

I may need to start selling it before it takes over the house!
