Moving Bales...

It's Moving Day...

We are loading up the bales

from the hay fields

and hauling them to the hay lot...

We use two pickups and trailers...

The Cowboy is picking up bales

and loading them onto the trailers...

They are all hauled over to the hay lot

and put into piles of 50 bales each...

This fall, the piles will be covered up

to keep the bales dry...

The Cowboy loads and I drive the trailer...

There are three of us in the hay field today...

The Cowboy's 89 year old dad

is loading and hauling with us...

 Two hay fields piled up...

More to Come !

Hay Season Continues...

We're still in the hay fields

going around in circles

raking and baling...

You can't get an early start in the morning

because you have to let the dew dry

off the hay before you can begin baling...

The bales are piling up in the fields,

we will need to begin picking them up,

loading them on trailers and hauling

them to the hay lot for winter storage...

I have an UPGRADE on my umbrella...

It goes to one of our patio tables

and is much larger than the yellow

beach umbrella.....yay!

The evening sun on the hay fields

is so beautiful...

Raking and Baling Hay...

Always be prepared...

We were expecting 100 degree weather while

raking the 2nd hay field so...

The Cowboy brought out his secret weapon...

a beach umbrella !

It worked great on the open cab tractor !

It kept me shaded while I was raking...

The Cowboy baled the hay in the

John Deere, which has an amazing

A/C unit.....gets like a frig in there !

Here is a round bale that just

hatched out the back of the round baler...

This baler is gigantic...

It is like standing inside an elevator

I raked and the Cowboy followed behind

baling up the hay...

We finished the field just as

the sun was setting.....a beautiful evening.

I am hoping to listen to the hum

of my sewing machine soon

and have some images to share with you.

Mowing the 2nd Hay Field...

This is a big hay field so...

we are cutting half the field today

The Cowboy is mowing it in half,

he can drive in a straight line...

me, not so much !

The Cowboy is making some final

adjustments to the rake...

I am off and running:

This is what the field looks like

after I have mowed for a few hours...

After 6 or 7 hours I am getting

closer to the middle of the field...

Tractors don't turn tight corners,

so when I get to a corner I cut straight across,

leaving a narrow strip of grass.

Then I go back and mow out the corners.

This is Polly with her new calf Pollyanna

Pollyanna will make a beautiful

replacement heifer next year.

The John Deere has excellent A/C

so I stay nice and comfortable while  mowing.

Project Bag...

Project Bags for Quilters

I love this pattern !

I have made 10 of these bags and

plan to make lots more...

This is the back of the bag.

There is foam in between the fabric

and it is quilted in a grid pattern...

The quilting shows up better on the

green lining fabric...

I have the vinyl cut for the front of the bag...

I have the zipper pieces all ready to stitch...

Just need to stitch the

front of the bag together...

Here it is bound with the handle attached.

Quilters Project Bag

20 x 20 inches

I have made several for myself and

a few more for my friends and family.

Here is some cuteness for you:

This Baby Bull just melts my heart...

He is the grandson to my very favorite cow,

Golden Girl

No more sitting in front of my sewing machine...

I am saddled up to the John Deere

mowing more hay fields.

Baling Hay @ The Kessi Ranch

Hay making season...

Our round hay bales are

5 feet x 6 feet and weight 1,000 lbs.

The Cowboy bales the hay

in this red round baler.

The door on the back opens up...

The bale starts to roll out the back ...

Poof.....all ready for the cattle to eat this winter

When we make repairs on the baler,

we have to crawl inside to work on it...

it is like being inside a large elevator.

I spent the day on the old Ford Tractor

raking the hay into wind rows...

This is what the field looks like

after it has been raked...

it is all ready for the Cowboy to come along

and bale it up.

The John Deere tractor straddles the

wind rows and the baler follows behind

and picks up the hay and rolls it up

into a giant round hay bale.

Foxgloves growing along the edges

of the hay field...

sometimes you see a white one !
