Quilting Sketch Book.....Filling Space

What I find useful is practicing ways to

fill a given space with quilting...

The space is SQUARE

I drew a curvy line and filled the square

with plumes...I stuffed it full!

More....SQUARES:

Draw a line through the square...

Then fill the entire space with plumes.

In the bottom image:

I divided the square in half horizontally

creating 2 triangle shapes

then filled each triangle shape completely.

You can fill a space with any shape...

a circle, triangle, rectangle, etc.

Look what's blooming by the Thread Shed:

Hollyhocks

They just opened up today...

I love the center star shape in every Hollyhock

The morning sun is shining on the back side

 of the bloom

to create a glow from the front of the flower.

Life in the Hay Fields:

Brad continues to bale the second field...

Quilting Sketch Book.....Background Fill

A great way to fill in the background space

of your quilts is...

Chalk out a random line like the one above...

....then add plumes to the line

 Here's another one:

This line is a series of question mark shapes...

This is what it looks like when you add plumes.

I think you are getting the idea...

Draw or chalk out lines....then fill them in.

Give it a try!

What's happening out of doors:

The Thread Shed is the building on the left.

The Hen House is on the right.

The Hen House has a new coat

 of Bubble Gum Red Paint:

Our cousin is here painting

the out buildings for us

this summer.....yay!

The hens and rooster are enjoying watermelon for

breakfast today!

We took a ride to the hay field this evening...

...to check up on Brad....baling hay

This is Chris....our painter

Chris is very tall....he dwarfs

these 700 pound hay bales.

Brad is finishing up this field,

then will be home for dinner.

Quilting Sketch Book.....Feathers with a Filled Spine

This is a basic feather design:

When you draw out a double or hollow spine

and fill it with a design...

you get a feather with a filled spine

Feather with a Filled Spine

This is how I draw and stitch it out:

I try to avoid back tracking

when stitching out a design,

but sometimes it can't be helped.

I do back track in number 5 on the left side,

to get back down to the base to draw the feathers

on the left side of the spine.

Check out what is happening in the back yard:

Climbing Rose on the patio...

Red Dahlias

The yearling cattle come up to the back yard fence:

They want to know if Gunnr can come out and play?

Yes, Gunnr is always ready to play with the calves!

My favorite yearling calves.....this year:

Life in the back yard......beautiful this time of year!
