Green Quilt Designs.....Sketch Book

Long before I ever cut a piece of fabric for this
Green Squares Quilt...

Green Squares Quilt

I started drawing out possible quilting designs:

The main goal in the quilting phase is...

Keep this quilt masculine...

My favorite guy has been sleeping under girly, flowery quilts
for too many years...

This Green Quilt is made special for him...

These are a few designs I have in the sketch book
so far...

I captured the image of this daylily shortly
after the sun came up this morning...

Please feel free to use these images in your personal art work

Always glad to share the beauty

Quilting Designs.....Sketch Book

Sometimes I just doodle in my
Sketch Books of Quilting Designs...

And....sometimes I want to explore a doodle further...

On the left side of the page....I simplified the doodle

On the right side I filled in the design with plumes

Left side.....doodle

Right side.....filled in with plumes

I have sketch books all over the house and in
the Thread Shed...
Whenever an inspiration comes....I draw it out.

To organize all of the designs and ideas, the inside cover of the sketch book is like a table of contents or a glossary...

I categorize the designs,
then record the page number where I can find them in
the sketch book.

Afraid to start a sketch book because you don't know what to put on the first page?
I hear that a lot.
Start from the back page and work your way forward...
It works!  Try it!

This is a view of the hay field from the living room window:

There are more than hay bales in there tonight...

The elk have moved in...
Cows, Calves & Bulls

I didn't have the zoom lens on the camera,
so this is the best I could do by cropping
the image on the computer...

This means...
it is time to load up and truck the bales to winter storage.

Green Quilt......Piecing the Top

Day 6

I started piecing these green and white blocks back in April...

They were put aside the last couple of months.
I have been itching to get back to them!

I began piecing them this evening...

Estimated size is 108 inches square

The darkest blocks will go around the outside edges,
creating somewhat of a border treatment.

The quilt top needs to be put together in
block sections,
rather than rows, to make the design work.

This is a FUN one!

More to come...

Hydrangea by the Thread Shed:

These are a lavender blue color...

 There are also pink blooms:

Hydrangea...

The purple hydrangea in front of the house
are really putting on a show...

I hope these images will inspire you!
Feel FREE to use them in your personal art work...

The bloom is yellow green for the first few days...

Then it begins to turn purple...

After a week, the bloom looks like this...

These images have been downloaded at a
high resolution...

Green Quilt.....Trimming the Blocks

Day 5

I am in the hay fields today...

The rain here in Western Oregon has put a damper
on the hay making.
The sun is back today, so we are raking and baling.

Last night I pulled all the Green Quilt Blocks
off the design wall...

Green Quilt

It is time to get them trimmed to size...

80 Blocks  6.5 inches

40 Blocks   12.5 inches

Once the hay is in the barn...

I can get these blocks up on the design wall
and get this quilt top put together.
