Monday......more Sunflower Progress

I spent the afternoon today

working on the sunflower quilt...

This is where I left off.....last Monday.

At this point, I am nearly done

filling in the dark brown center of the flower...

5:00.....I am calling it a day.

The rest will have to wait until next Monday.

Before I began stitching on the sunflower,

I spent the morning basting quilts:

Spray basting is my preference...

This quilt top has been sitting around

for close to a year

waiting its turn to go....under the needle.

As long as I had the can of 505 Spray out,

I basted this hexagon quilt...

These are very large hexagons,

hand stitched together using the

English Paper Piecing method...

I added the striped red border to finish it off...

One more quilt

ready to go....under the needle.

I will machine quilt both of these

The Cowboy took me to Boise a couple

weeks ago to raft the river....

Here I am with our son, our river guide.

I am using Ann Shaw's pattern

  1. Beautiful sunflower quilt !
i need your help Luann Kessi.
i am waiting for your reply.

    1. Howdy Unknown, you are a NO REPLY Blogger, which means I cannot send you an email and reply directly to you. I can only correspond with you, like I am doing now, through my blog. I am not sure what help you are needing. If you are wanting the name of the Sunflower Pattern I am using, it is an Ann Shaw pattern. you can find it at

  2. Looking forward to your quilted floral quilts, especially the new York beauty.

  3. Love the sunflower quilt! Looks like good winter projects to put those quilt tops under the "needle"!!!

  4. Your sunflower is amazing!!! Isn't your HandiQuilter a longarm on a frame? I don't baste quilts I quilt on my longarm, but since I don't have a HandiQuilter, my knowledge there is minimal. Not needing to baste is one of the reasons I got a longarm!!

    1. I have a HandiQuilter Sweet Sixteen, which is a sit-down long arm. I don't have the room for a full size long arm. I do play with them from time to time when I see them at quilting events. So, I spray baste and push my quilts under the stationery machine.

  5. Hi everyone, I haven't been receiving any blogger comments for several months now. I thought everyone was having a fun and busy summer and wasn't reading the blog.....just today I discovered lots and lots of blogger comments waiting for my moderation. Not sure how that happened? I will try and respond to any questions you had....which may take me awhile to get through several months of comments, but I will peck away at it a little each day. Sorry for the lack of communication on my part. Happy to see all of the comments waiting for me. My Best To You, LuAnn Kessi in Western Oregon
