Green Quilt......Binding

Day 8, 9 and 10

I spent day 8 and 9 machine quilting...

12 hours to get this quilted...

The quilting went very quickly...

I quilted lots of straight lines and squares...

My favorite guy requested simple, masculine quilting...

which translates to no girly feathers on this quilt!

Here it is Day 10.......Binding Day!

Omnigrid 20 inch square up ruler...

Trim up perfect square corners.....every time!

I used all of the leftover green fabrics for the binding strips:

450 inches of binding......ready to be pressed...

I am ready to sit down and get the binding stitched on...

This coffee can method helps feed the binding flawlessly

onto the quilt......works perfect every time!

The binding sits between my feet:

By 5:00 the binding was on and it was time to go in and fix dinner.

  1. it turned out great; perfect masculine quilting motif, and your coffee can method is also right on target with the task at hand - make that 'at feet!'

  2. The coffee can to hold the binding strip is a neat idea--thanks! Do you keep the feed dogs engaged for the quilting? Or are you moving the quilt free-motion style for all those changes of directions? Your quilting is beautiful and even!

  3. Oooops--I commented too soon; I backtracked to all your "green quilt posts" and saw that you used a Sweet Sixteen to free-motion quilt it--just what I have, too. Beautiful work!

  4. Hi Martha,

Thanks for your kind comments. My days of quilting 100 inch quilts on my Bernina with a 7 inch throat space are over! I have had the S16 for a year now and love it.

  5. I LOVE that quilt! I cannot wait to see it with the binding on it. You are so tricky with that coffee can method. I'm going to have to try that when I finally can do a quilt again!
