Spring has arrived in Western Oregon...

Spring has arrived in our little valley

On my way home, I had to stop and snap a photo of our place.
The lighting was just right at this time of day.

Lots of baby calves running through the fields.

That is always a sure sign that Spring has finally arrived...

While the mama cows are grazing, the babies gang up together and have relay races!

This little guy is trying to get his mother to play.....but she is having no part of it!

The Buzzards are Back!

That is also another sure sign that Spring has arrived...

The buzzards roost on the top of the fence posts and open their wings.
I think it is some sort of solar drying method they use.
There were 8 lined up with their wings open just before I got the camera out...

I am getting lots done out in the Thread Shed for future class samples...
I will post images as soon as I can.
Happy Spring!

Machine Quilting

Robinson Anton 24Kt Gold Rayon Thread

This rayon thread looks like a metallic when quilted on black.
It is wonderful to work with.
It gave the quilt some....zing!

Background & Border Quilting

Black thread was used in wavy lines in the borders.
YLI Variations Stone thread was used to quilt wavy lines in the crackled fabric background behind the leaves.

No time for the border treatment.....maybe tomorrow.

Mixed Media Rust Quilt....

The central image of the trees and birds was the inspiration for this mixed media journal quilt.
I found a scrap of rust fabric leftover from a previous quilt and decided to go with a monochromatic color theme.

A used coffee filter and some old keys and butterfly hinge helped give this piece the "grunge" look.

"In the Moment"
Mixed Media Journal Quilt

I couldn't bare to cut the top off straight and remove that wonderful line of rust, so I left it at a 45 degree angle.

Random wavy lines of machine quilting added the perfect texture.

Wax coated string on the right
Rolled leather-like cord on the left
Gave this piece more dimension along with the hinge and keys.

I also bound the edge with the rolled cord.
