Cougar Quilt...

In between trips to the calving barns

to check on the mama cows...

I have been doing a little stitching !

Cougar Panel  by Hoffman Fabrics 2018

This has been hanging around for years...

it is time to do something with this.

I pulled some fabrics from the cupboard

for a border treatment...let's see what happens.

I am thinking...Star Blocks

I do love the orange grunge background fabric...

I haven't done a lot of traditional, precision

piecing the last 10 years...

but, it came right back to me!

These star blocks are lots of FUN !

The more star blocks I made,

the more I wanted to make !

This Dolly Madison Star block

has always been a favorite of mine...

Star within a Star block

Let's get the star blocks up on the design wall

and see what shakes out:

The orange background fabric works nicely...

This is working...

I'll make more star blocks.

We haven't had the best weather conditons

for our calving season this year......sigh.

I took this photo out our back door...

it looks across the river at our 2 calving barns.

This is rough weather on our newborn calves.

The calves need lots of TLC

from the Cowboy and I.

Two weeks ago Golden Girl's calf was frozen

when we found it in 19 degree weather.

We thawed her out with

my hair dryer, tubed her full of colostrom

and she was alive a few hours later,

to our surprise!

I have been too busy to take any calf photos,

but I will when things get a bit easier.

Bye For Now...

Commission......Owl Panel

Owl Panel

When I was commissioned to create wall art

from this owl panel I was told to do anything

I wanted.....and, if possible, to

make it looked like a framed image...

I pieced flying geese into the border treatment

I found some wooden boards fabric

in my stash and created a frame around it...

Top left corner.....stitched a mitered corner

to look like a wooden frame

I felt that is all this owl panel needed...

It is ready to be basted and quilted...

more to come !

I will leave you with this parting shot:

This is our rooster, Merle...

He takes such good care of his hens.

Here they are at the end of the day

roosting on the hitching post behind the house.

Reflections of Autumn.....Quilt Top DONE

I started this quilt in November...

Reflections of Autumn

This is what it looked like in December...

( It is my Monday project )

By January the quilt top was complete...

It wasn't big enough for the bed...

so I added 2 additional borders...

It now measures 90 x 90

My favorite part of this quilt is this

gorgeous wide border of leaves...

It is now February and I found this beautiful

gold backing fabric 108 x 108...

Machine quilting can begin !

We were able to get out and do some

traveling along the rugged Oregon Coast

Port Orford, Oregon

It was good to get away for a few days

before the cows begin calving soon.

The mama cows all have

babies in their tummies.

The first baby is due February 22nd.

Improv Stars...Design Wall

I have been stitching together

Improv Star components since November...

Now that the design wall is cleared off,

it is time to put them up on the wall...

These go together like a jigsaw puzzle...

the star blocks are not square,

they intersect one another.

I have a limited amount of the

black and white surface design fabric

that I created, so I don't know

how far I can go with this design...

15 Star Blocks up on the wall...

Time to cut out the background fabric

and fill it in to create an edge treatment

around the star blocks...

At this point, the left side corner

has the background fabric

placed around the edges...

All 24 star blocks are on the wall

and I am hoping I will have enough

of the background fabric for

the bottom edge....

Whew....I made it!

Not sure if there will be an additional

edge treatment at this point,

but it is ready to be pieced together.

The seams are every 2.5 inches apart...

this will take some time to piece.

Our neighbor has these cool looking cattle:

It lives across the road from one of our barn lots.

Very Friendly !

Look at those horns....wow!

High Horses.....Quilt Top DONE

I started this Horse Panel Quilt top

in September...

I was so happy to finish it and get it off

the design wall that I forgot to get a photo,

so here it is on the ironing board...

It took a few weeks to cut and piece

all of those Bear Paw blocks in the borders...

I put the final mustard yellow border on it

and I am calling it done!

Actually, I am calling it

High Horse

Need to find a backing for it.

Look what Santa left under the tree:

Massage Chair Pad

After a few hours of stitching

I turn this on and...

I can stitch for a few hours more!
