First Baby Goat is Born...

Our first stop this morning is the cow barn...

2 week old Calf number 6

is here to greet us when we arrive to do chores...

I have to say, morning chores are so much better

with 18 Baby Calves running around!

Our next stop is the goat barn:

We stopped @ the Goat Barn

to pick up straw bales...

we were just in time to see the new baby kid goat.

This mama goat eventually had triplets

Baby Calves....in the SNOW

We woke up to a blanket of snow today!

Nearly all of the cows and calves were still

in the cow barn when we arrived this morning...

This is the first snow the baby calves have seen...

These are mother cows that have not

calved yet...

We have a new baby this morning:

Baby number 12 has arrived...

This mama loves her new bull calf...

I was able to capture on video

the cows and calves coming out of the barn

to greet the new calf...

It is a very sweet video.

Bright Batik Hexagons.....Border Treatment

Hexagon Quilt Top Progress Report:

Looking at and handling these bright batiks

has helped make this winter pass by quicker.

They make me happy just looking at them!

Last evening I began the border process:

These uneven edges will be straight

once the border is on...

I paper pieced partial hexagon shapes

to fit into the borders...

I had a lot of the dark pink fabric,

so it was the best choice for the border...

The half hexagon shapes will go on 2 borders...

The partial hexagon shapes will go on the

other 2 borders...

The quilt top measures 70 inches square.

More than 200 hexagons.

I have decided that is a healthy size lap quilt...

time to stitch on the borders.

This is where I hand stitch in the evenings:

If you look out the window...

snow is falling this morning.

If you look closely, you can see the

cow barns across the river.

We use the binoculars in the widow to check

on the cows and calves.

We are having a bit of a white out this morning...

The 2 big barns are where the

cows and calves are.

If you look close, just below each barn...

you can see a few of the cows outside.

The tulips in the planter out front

are getting a dusting of snow today.

Time to bundle up and head across

the river to check on the cattle...

Cows 'n Calves.....

We are checking on the

expectant mothers this morning...

No new calves today...

The mother cows bring their babies into the cow

barn in the evenings to spend the night

nice and warm and dry:

In the morning they bring their babies out

into the orchard to graze...

the babies love to run and play with each other.

This sweet little baby peeks at me from

behind his mama...

I love checking for new calves each morning.

2 new babies...

Doesn't get much cuter than this!

There are 10 calves romping around the fields

with lots more on the way...

This week old calf is already grazing with Mama

We load up and head over to the barn

to check on the weaned calves...

These 8 month old calves

Once they get over missing mama so much,

we will put them out in the field with the

yearling cattle.
