12 calves in 12 days...

Calving season is just getting started...

We will continue to have calves into May...

This is Edith with her new bull calf...

Most of the heifers will not have their calves

until April...

Things aren't too busy just yet,

so I have been able to spend time out

in the Thread Shed listening to the

hum of my sewing machine....aaah.

Horse Quilt...Done !

" Unbridled "

72 x 56 inches

The horse quilt is the same as the

pillows on the couches.

It's good to have it done and enjoy it

in the living room.

We had 5 newborn calves this morning...

They are all strong and healthy.

This is Althea Red

She is one of our oh so beautiful heifers.

She isn't showing any signs of calving just yet.

We check on the cattle several times a day to

see if any of the mamas are in labor yet.

Sometimes they need our help having their babies.

Horse Quilt...

Remember this horse panel quilt top?

It has been sitting around long enough...

time to get it....under the needle !

It is a fair sized quilt, so I will quilt it

on my Big Girl Machine...

Handi Quilter Sweet Sixteen

This is a Sit-Down Long Arm

and I love it for larger projects...

I used the Handi Quilter Wave Ruler

to quilt the center of the panel...

I used the Hand Quilter Ditch Ruler

for all of the straight line quilting...

To mark the spine of the feather,

I used my very favorite marking tool...

Ultimate Marking Pencil

You just iron it off...

The white line disappears with heat...magic!

Close-Up view of Quilting:

The 20 inch square up ruler

works best for trimming and squaring up...

Ahhh...the rough edges are gone !

Now I need to paw through the fabric cupboards

and find a binding that works...

I will send another image when this is

hanging on the living room wall.

Moda Love Quilt...2

I have made 3 of these

Moda Love Quilts...

46 x 46 inches

I just finished the machine quilting

and binding on this one...

You can make them with

Layer Cakes, 5 inch charm squares or

2.5 inch mini charm squares...

It is a wonderful way to work with

an entire line of fabric...

I have completed 3 of these quilts

and I am in the process of the 4th one...

We start our day on the calving grounds

checking on the mamas and new babies...

The Cowboy does his walk-through to check

and see who will be calving soon...

We have 6 calves on the ground so far...

This is my view out the side view mirror

each morning...

There is no other place I would rather be !

Calving...

We have 5 calves on the ground so far

and lots more on the way...

This is my view each morning

as we feed the cattle...

It is good to see newborn calves

out in the feeding grounds...

This is the view when we pull in the driveway...

The reflection of the barn in the water

was fun to see this morning !

We are attending a Bull Sale tomorrow.

Hopefully we will come home with a

yearling bull to breed our heifers in May.

We Can Quilt It...

I have had this panel for many years

and it is time to put it together...

I sandwiched this together with

Pellon Fusible Foam...

The foam gives incredible definition

to the machine quilting...

This is mostly free motion quilting

with a little bit of ruler work...

Back side...

Back Side...

I stitched both pieces together

then cut out the bottom corners

to create a bag with a flat bottom...

The lining is in and I am

topstitching around the top edge...

I used heavy cardboard and covered it

with fabric to put in the bottom of the bag...

Bottom of bag reinforcement...

Leather handles are installed

with metal rivets...

It has been a long time coming

and it is now ready to carry my stuff !
