Quilting Sketch Book.....Narrow Border Designs

Here are a few designs that work in

narrow borders or sashing areas:

I sectioned off the sketch book into

2 inch rows to draw out each design

I stitched a couple of the designs into this baby quilt:

The designs fit nicely in the narrow outer borders.

Sketch Book.....Background Fillers

A few background filler designs from

my quilting sketch book:

Swirl and Whirl Background Fill

This design stitches out quickly

Divide and Conquer Background Fill

Chalk out random lines on the fabric,

then stitch anything you want to fill them in.

Very FUN!

Sketch Book....Feathers

Feathers have been on my mind a lot lately...

I have been stitching them into quilts...

Drawing them out in the sketch book...

I challenge myself to draw them out

in different ways...

Each feather has its own personality!

Piggy Back Feathers are a favorite

It rained here in Western Oregon today:

Nothing prettier than rain drops on an iris leaf...

Sketch Book.....Just for FUN

From my Sketch Book....Just for FUN

I traced circles...then filled them in.

A different design in each shape.

This would be FUN on a whole cloth quilt.

I drew random lines...

then again, filled in each shape differently.

Makes a good background filler.

Look what's blooming in the back yard today:

Star Lily

This flower is begging to become a quilt...

personal art work if you are inspired!

Sketch Book.....Evolution of a Feather

I call this a Piggy Back Feather...

Plumes are stitched on the backs of

previous plumes

I decided to take photos as I drew out this design:

I chalk out the feather spine onto fabric...

1...... At the base of the spine, I begin to

add plumes on the bottom right side

2......  Here comes the piggy back part

Add left facing plumes onto the back

 of the previous plume

3....... Then add another section of plumes

Continue piggy backing and adding plumes

until the right side of the spine is filled in.

Then stitch back down the spine to the bottom:

Then stitch plumes on the left side of the spine.

We enjoyed the Iris bed this year:

The Brown Iris are a favorite of mine

The Iris bed is all cleaned out for this year...

Glad to have these photos to enjoy

until they bloom next year
