Fertilizing the Bull Field...

We are over in the bull field

spreading fertilizer

We winter the bulls in one of our hay fields...

That hay field is getting fertilizer today...

The bulls kept me company while I was

spreading fertilizer...

Spring has arrived here in the

Pacific Northwest:

We have never had tulips in bloom

this early in the year...

The back yard is full of red tulips!

  1. How does Cowboy decide which bull will mate with which cows? With keeping some of your own bulls and cows, I know he really has to keep track of the lines so he doesn't mess up the gene pool! Ferdinand has grown up to be a really lovely bull! I remember him when he was so tiny I wondered why you would keep him...except for his beautiful coloring and sweet nature!

    1. We change out our bulls every few years. We breed our shorthorn replacement heifers with the Angus bulls. We sort out the cows into several different fields and put the appropriate bulls in the different fields. We stay on top of our breeding program and keep good records.
