Feeding Yearling Cattle...

Every morning begins with...

Feeding the Yearling Cattle

Yearling Calves

They range from 8 to 12 months in age.

They eat 600 lbs of hay every morning!

Remember these 2 guys on the right?

Yes, they are the bottle calves

we raised last spring...

This is what they looked like 9 months ago:

Orphaned twin calf number 25

and Dairy bull calf

The dairy calf gets spoiled...

he gets extra hay off the hay wagon.

These 2 guys are inseparable...

They are never apart...

even in a herd with 57 calves.

Such Devotion

  4. I am so thrilled to see the bottle babies!!! They have matured so much, but their friendship is amazing. When will you sell these yearlings? And will the bottle babies go with them? I can't imagine getting attached to them and having them end up in your freezer, but equally hard to let them go away! I really worked at not getting attached to the steers we fed up for the freezer, because I knew where they were headed. However, you have been doing this for more years than I have, so I assume you build up a barrier to them worming their way into your heart. It is a business...thankfully not my business!! I would want to keep them as pets!!!

  5. Hi Farm Quilters,
They will decorate our pasture. I cannot part with them. They are so sweet and gentle, they will be no trouble, they will be good company here at our place with our goat herd.
    Thanks for caring about them,
