Wholecloth Quilt......Practice

I am preparing to do some wholecloth quilting

so thought I would do a bit of warm up...

This is a cloth napkin...

I had great FUN doing a bit of free motion

feathering all over it.

I really like working on the shiny napkin...

I am ready to graduate to a small tablecloth next.

I was down at the goat barn yesterday...

The kid goats greeted me as soon as I arrived...

They are yearlings and very curious...

Goats are wonderful company!

Here is a goat quilt I created a few years back:

Weaning Calves...

It is a cold and wet morning here in

Western Oregon

We are weaning calves today...

First I thought I would show you a

cow portrait quilt I created a few years back:

Double Take

Created By: LuAnn Kessi

Here it is under the needle

This is one of our Cow and Calf pairs...

the calf is a chip off the old block

We live in the coastal mountain range

of Western Oregon

Mary's Peak has a fresh blanket of snow

this morning.

This is our view as we head out

to round up the cattle.

Our cattle ranch was homesteaded in 1911...

5 generations have lived and worked here.

We have rounded up some of our

young cattle this chilly, wet morning...

The cows and calves will be

ear tagged, wormed and vaccinated

3 year old mama cows

8 month old calves

I took lots of video during the day and

edited it down to a few minutes.

how our day went with the cattle.

Bright Batik Hexagons........Progress

Remember this stack of Hexagons?

Bright Batik Hexagons

I cut the fabrics and basted the hexagons

32 Hexagons

Here it is 2 months later:

180 Hexagons

These measure 3 inches

along one side of the hexagon...

these are LARGE.

This has been a constant companion

the last 2 months...

These bright batiks make me happy

just looking at and handling them!

A perfect project for this Western Oregon

dark and rainy winter.

More progress reports to come!
