Feeding Cattle......

Each day starts with morning chores...

We are across the river

feeding the older cows...

We have 11 working barns...

Each barn has a purpose:

Hay Storage
Feeding Cattle
Feeding Goats
Storing Machinery
Wintering the Bulls
Wintering the Billy Goats
Calving the Cows
Kidding the Goats
Storing Firewood

It is freezing this morning....brrrr:

Frozen Teasel.......horrible weed

Frozen Blackberry Vines

Frozen Blackberry Leaves

It's cold!

After morning chores I did some prep work

for marbling fabric next week:

This DVD by Jo Fitsell is excellent!

I learned everything I need to know

to get started.

After I soaked the fabric in Alum

 and hung it to dry...

It was time to hear the purr

of the sewing machine:

I created fish prints on fabric in October.

It was time to make some more

zipper bags with it...

The top and bottom fabrics are

black shibori hand dyes.

The center fabric is an ice hand dye.

3 different surface design treatments in this bag!

Have a great day and.....keep warm!

  1. Animals always need to be fed and cared for....just life on the farm! I can remember having a heater for the water tank and how the water would freeze around the perimeter of the tank. But easy to break through with the heater! Folks not raised on a farm don't realize how much work it takes but it is a wonderful life! I live through your blog and your daily farm chores and adventures! Happy holidays!

  2. It's very interesting to see a way of life that is so different than ours!
The combination of the three surface designs on the bag is beautiful!

  3. I checked the horse and goat water yesterday afternoon, it was drinkable... This morning there was a one inch thick layer of ice. I have to use five gallon buckets to put warm water in to take out to the troughs ad pull the ice off, then fill with the warm water. I made two trips this morning for the water. I really do enjoy it though!
