Bottle Calves...5 Years Old

Do you remember these two little guys?

Marv.....1 day old

Vern.....2 months old

In 2017 we raised Vern and Marv on bottles

Bottle Babies.....Marv and Vern

Vern is a beef calf rejected by his mother

Marv is a bull calf from the dairy

2017.......Vern and Marv.....8 months old

Just weaned from the bottle

( I think weaning was harder on me

than it was them!)

2018.....Marv and Vern 18 months old

Here are the bottles calves today: 5 years old

Just for scale to show how big he really is...

Marv is in the center with 2 full grown cows

on each side of him...

Those cows weigh 1500 pounds...

he dwarfs them and they are very large cows !

Marv and Vern today...

They are so sweet and still know

the sound of my voice

when I call them to come over for a visit.

Enjoy the Video:

Cattle Drive...

7pm....the sun is setting

it is cooling off

time to drive the cows up river to new pasture:

We are moving 25 cow and calf pairs

this evening...

They are on their way to summer pasture

and will remain there until November...

They are stringing out along the road

and traveling along at a steady pace...

8:30pm...they have arrived

and immediately begin grazing on the fresh grass.

We have 3 more herds to move this week.

Sunset....on our way home

Crosscut Tote Bag...

Remember this Quilt Top?

I pieced this back in 2018...

I had lots and lots of leftover blocks...

I pieced enough of the blocks together

to make a tote bag...

Here it is:

Crosscut Tote Bag...

I used Pellon Flex Foam...

so fun to quilt through and also creates

a super firm bag that stands up nicely...

I lined it with leftover fabric from the quilt top...

covered a piece of cardboard for the bottom.

I boxed the bottom corners to create

a flat bottom...the bag stands up and doesn't

fall over when you set it down...

Here is tonight's sunset:

Hay Season is almost over...

The hay has been mowed, raked & baled...

It's time to load it all up and haul

it out of the fields...

We have 6 hay fields to load up...

This is the hay field across the river

from our home place.

I am pulling a trailer today...

The Cowboy is loading the trailer...

This is my view out the window...

empty trailer

The Cowboy has 10 bales loaded

on the trailer and...

I am heading for the barn.

We have 2 trailers hauling bales today...

These round bales weight 1,000 lbs each...

In 2 days, we have hauled more than 450 bales

out of the hay fields...

It's a lot of work and long hours,

but I love hay season...

The cattle also love hay season...

Here is Althea...

she is looking longingly at the hay bales

as we haul them out of the fields.

Enjoy the Video:

The only thing left after we clean up

and store away the hay equipment is...

to get behind the wheel of my sewing machine !

A walk through the yard...

We are home from the hay fields

and it is time to get the flowers watered...

I head over to the Thread Shed...

the chickens wonder why I haven't

been sewing in here for awhile?

The chickens get up on the steps and

watch me sew when I am in there...

The purple hydrangea and red rose bush

are in full bloom...

I walk around to the back yard...

The star lilies are in full bloom...

Over by the back door...

The Hollyhocks are putting on a show !

The the left of the hollyhocks,

the Cowboy has built a camp fire

so we can cook outdoors tonight...

The chickens follow me around the yard

as I water the flowers...

Here are a few close-ups of the Hollyhocks:

My favorite shot...

backlit from the setting sun.

I planted these hollyhocks years and years ago...

never re-planted them...

these are volunteers that come every year !

It was a beautiful evening in the yard...

makes me look forward to watering the flowers

each day when we get home.

Enjoy your Summer !
