Painting Fabric...

Painting Fabric.....Play Day!

Here are a few pieces that I painted yesterday...

Fabric is approx 21 x 30 inches
Fits nicely on a foam core board during the painting process.

I hung them on the line this morning because I thought it would be easier to photograph them that way...

Yup....as soon as I did....a strong wind came in and blew them around like the sails on a boat!

Sponged Summer Sky

Water
Salted and Folded to dry

Sun Dyeing
I placed a table runner on top of the wet paint, then put it out in the sun to dry.
Came out better than I had hoped for...

Desert Sunset

Autumn Sunset

Sunset over the Ocean
Salt sprinkled over the lower portion

Leftover paint....
Painted in horizontal lines, then folded the fabric accordion style and left to dry.

Mountains or Rocks

After painting, the fabric was scrunched up and put in the sun to dry.
Creates hills and valleys for the paint to accumulate.

Leftover Paint....
I used all of the leftover green paints, then folded it and left it in the sun to dry.

Ground up Walnut Shells
This piece is still drying...
I sprinkled ground up walnut shells on the wet paint, then put it out in the sun to dry.
Hoping the shells will act as a resist?

Bubble Wrap
I placed bubble wrap under the fabric...then painted and salted it.
Hoping the bubble wrap will cause hills and valleys and texturize the piece.

Clean Up Cloth

I just couldn't bare to throw out the leftover paints...
I scrunched up a piece of fabric and poured the last of the paints all over it.
I swiped it here and there with the brushes and sponges.
After it dries I will iron it and post a photo of it.
Clean up Cloths are my favorite!

Gunnr

He is keeping an eye on the last few pieces drying outside...
Just to make certain the birds don't fly over and make a deposit on them!

Mowing hay in the Bend Field

Brad is mowing while Nicholas gets off the tractor to have some lunch

Suzy and I stopped by to bring the guys iced tea

Suzy loves to check out all the mole hills in the hay fields

Grass after it has been mowed...
This will lay out in the sun and dry for a day or two.

Middle Field.......Mowed

After the grass dries...
it will be raked into rows and baled.

Changing Drivers...
Nicholas is done with lunch, so gets back on to finish mowing the Bend Field

Suzy is headed for home...

I guess it is time for me to go too.

I painted fabric today.

Hello Gramma.......Remember Me?

As a teenager I spent time visiting my grandmother at a care facility.

I would walk down a long corridor, reach the door of her room, knock gently then walk in...

I would walk over to her bed, touch her hand and greet her:

Hello Gramma.......remember me?

For 12 years my family watched my gramma's slow decline from Alzheimer's.

My Grandparents, Helen & Nicholas Fusco

This is the way I prefer to remember my grandmother

Quilts brighten the lives of Alzheimer's Patients
Quilters have long known that a quilt is a loving tribute that bonds quilters with recipients across generations and across vast distances. The warmth of a quilt is enhanced by the often bright patterns and colorful images which frequently suggest a simpler time.
Under a unique donation program organized by the Alzheimer's Disease Cooperative Study (ADCS, quilts are brightening the lives of Alzheimer's patients around the nation.
The Alzheimer’s Study Quilt Program began in late January 2010. An employee who quilts jumpstarted the project because she knows how positively people react when given a quilt and how quilters are wonderfully generous people. Her plea for quilts to give participants in the NGF (Nerve Growth Factor) Study was picked up by numerous quilting newsletters. Good Samaritans circulated the request for quilts and they began arriving from communities all over the U.S. The program has received nearly enough quilts for all the NGF Study participants and are now looking for quilts for two other Alzheimer’s studies in progress.
Those study participants who have received quilts have been immensely grateful and realize that the quilts were made with love, sincerity, and gratitude (for participating in the study and helping future generations). Many of the quilters had family members with Alzheimer’s (AD). One woman who lost her mother to AD made and donated 12 quilts and another whose grandfather had AD provided 11 quilts. A woman in Pennsylvania made five flannel quilts in one week!
If you would like to donate a new lap-sized quilt to the Alzheimer’s Quilt Study Project, please contact Jeffree Itrich atjitrich@ucsd.edu.
