Flower Power...

I just can't clean out the flower beds yet...

By Now...I normally have the flowers

all cleaned out,

mulched and put to bed for the winter...

But, take a look for yourself:

The dahlias are really putting on a show !

They are responding to all of this gorgeous

and sunny autumn weather we are having

here in Western Oregon...

I just can't clean out the flower beds just yet...

There are even a few zinnias blooming...

I will miss them when they are gone...

These images will have to last all winter...

The bumble bees appreciate the flowers too !

As long as this beautiful weather sticks around,

so will the flowers!

Medallion Star Quilt....Progress

This has been my Wednesday project

20 inch Star Block...

I have been pecking away at this

the last few weeks on Wednesdays...

Each Wednesday I add a bit more

to the design wall...

Adding more star blocks each week...

Here are the last 9 stars to go up on

the design wall today...

Then I will be on to the final border treatment.

This is a Christmas gift, so there is nothing like

a deadline to get things done !

Autumn Leaves Table Runner...

The leaves are just beginning to turn

color here in Western Oregon...

I am motivated to make this

Autumn Leaves table runner...

These are leftover scraps from a fall quilt

I made for our bed last year...

You can see the

The work table is....set for FUN!

I have a few of the leaf units prepared...

This unit is the "kite" shape

and can be tricky to piece perfectly...

The pattern comes with this acrylic template

so that you can trim the

kite unit with precision...

All 4 units are completed...

The kite unit lines up perfectly

with the rest of the leaf block...

I think this is the most striking

leaf block I have ever pieced...

I have used a tailor clapper on my

pieced seams for many years...

I have found so many of these in

thrift stores over the years...

The leaves are piling up...

I decided to make a 3 leaf runner...

Lots of fabric scraps leftover

to make a scrappy border treatment...

This was FUN.....I will make more !

Happy Fall !

Front & Back....

We are enjoying the last of our

summer weather...

The front flower bed is still

in full bloom...

These marigolds are the size of a baseball...

This flower bed is just outside

the front door...

This view is from the front door

looking out toward the barn

and my Thread Shed...

Whiskey Barrels and Wagon Wheels

in front of the house...

That little window is the garden window

in the kitchen.

Petunia pots on top of the barrels...

The front flower bed looking

toward the front door...

You can see the red barn and

the yellow Thread Shed in the background...

This is around the back side of the house:

Lots of State Fair Zinnias

growing along the patio...

Looking out from the back door

you can see the cattle in the pasture

and the calving barns on the right...

Come March,  we will be spending

a lot of time across the river

at the calving barns...

It is good to slow down and take time

to appreciate what is around you.

I will miss all of this come winter.

Pears & Cattle...

The Cowboy planted a Pear Tree

a few years ago...

Now...every September

I find myself doing this !

The Cowboy brings a box of pears in

each morning...

This is my pear processing center...

the kitchen will stay like this until

the pear tree is done.

The Cowboy usually helps peel the pears,

but today is he out hauling firewood.

We started feeding cattle this week...

this is the first bale of the season.

The pastures have dried up and

the cows are beginning to wander

looking for feed...

The cattle are on Open Range...

not fenced in,

so they can go up into the hills for

miles chasing feed.

A fresh bale of hay each day

keeps them anchored down in the pastures,

where we can find them.

We will be weaning calves in October,

so we don't want to chase all over the

hills for the cows and calves.
