Idaho Quilt Retreat.....Day 3 & 4

I continue to work with my hand dyes...

I challenged myself to see just how far

I could go with curved piecing...

this top has no puckers, flat as a board !

I am using leftover strips and scraps

to create a border treatment

for the curved top...

Playing around with improv blocks...

I am liking the bold X blocks

to balance out all of those curves...

I also tried improv flying geese,

but they aren't the right fit...

The improv floating triangles blocks

seem to work in the borders...

Okay, I have a plan...

now to create more blocks for the borders...

During the retreat, each quilter signs up

to prepare one meal for the group...

Tonight it is Penny's turn to cook dinner.

To calm down the borders,

I chose to keep the block colors the same

for each side of the borders...

This border treatment is working...

All of the border blocks have been stitched,

now to piece them into border units...

I am calling this.....Fiestaware !

I have Fiestaware dishes in my kitchen.

We enjoyed gorgeous sunshine all week long...

it is time to take the quilt tops outdoors:

Each night there was a lovely moon...

Yes, the quilters could be heard out on the deck

howling at the moon!

It was a great retreat and just what

I needed before winter sets in.

Idaho Quilt Retreat.....Day 2

Idaho Quilt Retreat.....Day 2

I am working with my hand dyes today...

I brought along some

3/4 log cabin improv blocks...

I am using a flannel backed tablecloth

taped to the wall as my portable design wall...

I am using a wooden TV tray

as a pressing station...

It is kind of like a puzzle

getting these odd shaped blocks

to fit together...

I am building this in units,

rather than rows...

I am calling this....DONE !

Here is what the other Quilters are working on:

Donna's.... Raggedy Ann Quilt

She fussy cut all of the applique' pieces...

Then fused them to the center of each star block...

This will be darling on a little girls's bed.

Karen's star quilt top...in progress.

Pink and Brown is such a classic color story.

Linda is piecing lots of triangle units...

The triangles look like confetti.....FUN !

Linda is pleased with the center of the quilt top !

Penny is making a Pancake Quilt...

Donna is piecing lots of 4 Patches.

Sharon's beautiful table runner

Sharon's beautiful autumn quilt top

We are keeping those sewing machines

Double Cap Rivets...

I have been installing tote bag handles

with double cap rivets for a few years...

This vintage fishing tackle box

holds everything I need...

It keeps the tools organized

and easy to grab when I am installing rivets...

This little box is a basic kit

which comes with rivets, a hole punch

and installation tools...

Everything you need.

There are 3 different sizes of rivets

and several finishes on the rivets.

I prefer double cap rivets:

This is the outside of the bag

and the rivets look great on the leather handle...

This is the inside of the bag

and the rivets looks just as nice...

a clean, finished look.

The rivets are very strong, easy to install,

and I don't have to stitch through thick leather

with my sewing machine.

It gives a very professional appearance

to the tote bag...

Get yourself a double cap rivet kit

and give it a try !

I need to get back to packing up my

quilting supplies for an upcoming

quilt retreat.
