Thread Shed.....

We are over @ the cow barn this morning...

Looking across the river  in the distance,

you can see our place....see the red barn

The red barn is on the right...

To the left of the barn is a

little yellow building,

that's my Thread Shed

Here is a photo from above our place:

Double Click to enlarge

See the red barn in the center of photo?

The thread shed is to the right of it.

Way over on the right are the cow barns.

Thread Shed

The cowboy built this in 2000

I can't believe I have been sewing in here

for 17 years!

To the right of the Thread Shed

is the Little Red Hen House...

In the summer months,

Hollyhocks grow along the side

of the Thread Shed

There is always lots going on inside...

I sit in front of the big window to sew...

see the red barn

Sometimes the cattle come into the corral

and keep me company...

The Sweet Sixteen sit-down long arm

is on the left side of the room...

When I sew, I have a view of the design wall.

Once calving is over this spring,

I will have more time

to spend in the Thread Shed.

The Babysitter.....

This is the babysitter...

She is watching over more than her own baby...

Some of the other mama cows have

stashed their babies with her

while they go out and graze in the pasture...

When she gets hungry,

she will leave her baby with another mama.

This is heifer calf Number 2...

she was born 2 weeks ago.

I love that peaceful face.

You can view a video taken this morning

while doing cattle chores.

Quilting Sketch Book.....Vines

Here's a peek inside my

Sketch Book of Quilting Designs...

I have been in the mood to draw

Wild Vines

They have become my warm up design

when I have time to sketch...

These are 8.5 x 11 inches

I put a checker board behind this vine...

I put a double wedding ring behind this vine.

I am sketching out a few designs to prepare

for some whole cloth quilting

coming up soon.

Drunkards Path......Design Wall

I have something up on the Design Wall

I made these drunkard path blocks years ago.

I just slapped them up on the design wall...

I need to get to work and arrange them...

I can already see a few that need to be moved.

This gray, wet winter needs bright batiks!

I am looking forward to digging through

the fabric cupboards

to find a few more batiks to cut into...

The more I look at these...

the happier I get!

Feeding the Yearling Cattle...

This is the newest barn on the place...

we built it in 1989

Yearling Cattle grazing

It has been a wet, wet winter here

in the coastal mountain range of

Western Oregon

We are in the field below our house this morning

feeding the yearling cattle...

These calves were born a year ago...

We have 11 barns on the farm...

we use several of them for winter hay storage.

This round bale feeder keeps the calves from

stomping and wasting the hay...

Just a head up....

this isn't all mud!

This is my heifer, Golden Girl...

She will be bred when she is 2 years.

She will have her first baby when she is 3 years.

I was able to film the big round bales

being fed to the cattle.
