Focus on Fusing.......Leaf Shapes

I am enrolled in Melody Johnson's

Our third homework assignment is to create

leaf shapes...

I am using my hand dyed fabrics

in this class...

I decided to jump ahead in the assignments and

create a fused quilt...

I chose a color story I wanted to work with

and  began building a composition...

I added units created in the previous lessons...

Fusing liberates you to create a composition

that you cannot easily make

with a pieced design...

I added a 2 inch border of black all the way

around so that I have fabric to do a

wrapped edge treatment...

The top has been machine quilted....

Back Side of Quilt Top

On the right is Fast 2 Fuse which is used in the

wrapped edge treatment.

The black border fabric has been fused

to the back side of the Fast 2 Fuse...

Red hand dyed fabric

has been fused to the back...

This is the completed quilt

15 x 15 inches

I will post my homework

as I complete it each week.

Focus on Fusing......Introducing Fused Shapes

I am enrolled in Melody Johnson's

Our second homework assignment is to create

fused shapes...

Strips......straight and curvy.

I plan to sub-cut skinny, long strips from

the black and white units.

Squares, Triangles, Circles and X's

Spirals and Wavy Lines

I found it terribly relaxing to create these units

I am drawn to circles so had a play...

Confetti Circles on the Left

Sticks and Stones on the Right

I call this.....Ring Toss

This is my fusing set up...

Small cutting mat on the left,

Press Board with Release Paper

and Iron on the right.

I listen to a book on tape and FUSE

to my heart's content.

Thanks Melody for so much Fusing FUN!

I will post my homework

as I complete it each week.

Focus on Fusing.......Fused Fabric

I am enrolled in Melody Johnson's

My fabrics have been dyed...

The hand dyes are all fused...

You can see the fusible paper

on the back side of the fabrics.

I spent the day trimming off all of the un-fused

edges on the hand dyed fat quarters.

I need to be sure that the fusing goes all the way

to the edges of the fabric.

Lots of edge trimmings.

Rather than work with an entire fat quarter

of fused fabric,

I am cutting off 3 inch strips to work with.

It took most of the day to get the 50 fat quarters

trimmed and ready to work with.

The fabrics are prepped...

I am ready to begin creating!

I will post my homework

as I complete it each week.

Focus on Fusing.......Class Homework

I am enrolled in Melody Johnson's

http://focusonfusing.blogspot.com/

This week I sorted through my hand dyes:

These are a few that might work for this class.

We won't be using wild hand dyes at first...

We will use calmer hand dyes like these:

I do notice that the majority of my hand dyes

read as medium values.......hmmm.

I need each color to have values from very light

to very dark......like this run of pink hand dyes.

I spent Tuesday dyeing primary and secondary

colors on the color wheel......48 fat quarters.

Today I washed and dried them.

Now I am ready to fuse.....ALL of them!

Melody prefers

Pellon Wonder-Under 805  fusible web

This press will make short work of all that fusing!

This press has 7 times the pressing surface

of a regular iron.........wish me luck!

I will post my homework

as I complete it each week.
