Hay Season...

You know it is summer here in Western Oregon

when you don't hear the gentle hum of your

sewing machine...

You hear the ROAR of a tractor diesel engine!

You aren't cutting beautiful fabrics...

You are cutting hay!

This is my view from the tractor cab...

I am waving at you........upper left corner

Can you see me now?

This is where I will be for the next few weeks...

always a lovely view from the hay fields.

At the top of the image I can see my house...

I am just across the river from it.

It is 6.45 pm...

My cowboy arrived to spell me...

time to go home and put my feet up!

I was able to get a couple of

sewing days in last week:

My darling, sweet, kindred spirit......Linda

finished her pancake quilt....yay!

and you thought this wasn't going to be a

quilt related post.......fooled you!

Raw Edge Baby Quilts.......DONE!

Day 6

I spent the morning cutting binding strips

from the leftover inner border fabrics...

When Ralph is involved...

my productivity at the sewing machine

isn't what it could be!

Every now and then I need to move him off the

quilt so I can stitch the bindings down.

I was lucky to have enough leftover fabric

for the bindings:

Quilt 1

The scrappy gray binding

is just the right finish.

At this point the quilts have been

washed and dried twice...

They are so soft and oh so cuddly for a baby...

The raw edges washed up nicely...

Quilt 2

I always put a machine sewn binding

on baby quilts.

Baby quilts get so much use and so many

washings that a machine binding

is the best choice.

I topstitch it from the top side

with a decorative stitch.

I wish you could feel how

soft and yummy these are!

Creating baby quilts is good for the soul.

Raw Edge Baby Quilt 2.......Machine Quilting

Day 5

Yesterday I machine quilted Baby Quilt 1.

Today I am quilting Baby Quilt 2...

I quilted innie and outies in the background.

These are a lot of FUN to stitch out!

The heart on the left has been quilted...

No quilting on the heart on the right yet.

The gray inner border is quilted with swirls.

The outer border is quilted with plumes.

Lots of yummy texture on this baby quilt!

I have leftover gray fabrics

I will use for a scrappy binding treatment.

No time for the binding today...

More to come!

Raw Edge Baby Quilts.....Machine Quilting

Day 4......Baby Quilts

The borders are on both baby quilts...

I had enough of the background fabric

to use for outer borders.

Baby Quilt 2 has borders

Ralph seems to like the baby quilts

I found 2 flannel fabrics in the cupboard

to use for backings:

I spray basted both quilts and they are

ready to go under the needle!

The layered hearts in the center of each block

are only glued down.

I machine quilted them leaving the edges free

to unravel in the washer and dryer.

The background is heavily quilted

with tiny swirls...

The outer borders are quilted with large spirals...

The quilts will be washed and dried 3 times

so they will shrink up, the edges will fray

and get very soft and yummy.

It is 6:00 and I am ready to

head home for the day.

Tomorrow I will quilt the pink heart quilt.

The quilt on the left is un-quilted.

The quilt on the right is quilted...

The quilting definitely makes the Quilt!

Ralph is really checking out my quilting stitches:

He makes me a bit paranoid

about my quilting skills!

More Tomorrow...
