Sketch Book......Curly Feathers

Feathers don't always need plumes...

You can put a curl where a plume should be...

Curls add a lot of whimsy to a quilt...

Try adding different shapes to the feather spine and see what works.

I am still in the summer mode...

This Autumn Blaze tree in the yard started turning this week.

I am ignoring it.

Geometric Designs lend themselves to

contemporary, modern and art quilts

Mostly triangle shapes...

Rectangles and Squares...

This looks like a maze.

Sketch Book......Feathers Filling Space

A few more feather designs from the Sketch Books:

It is FUN to take a given space (rectangle, square, circle) and fill it up with feathers.

Use ALL available space....every inch of it...

It is FUN to stretch out the plumes to fill in the space...

Use a chalk mark to define the feather spine, then fill in all of the given space with plumes.

Divide up the quilting area with lines (top of page).

Fill in those areas with feathers to take up all available space.

It is a great way to fill in a lot of negative space in the background areas of a quilt.

We are still enjoying the last few hollyhock blooms:

This is how we spent the day today:

Splitting Fire wood

Hydraulic Wood Splitter

Taking a load to the barn...

Storing the wood in the pony stall...

The wood will finish drying here for a few months.

Fire wood heats you twice...
First when you cut it
Then when you burn it
