Sketch Book.....Background Fills

Background Fill Designs
from the Sketch Books...

I have been trying out a few filler designs
from Barbara Chapel's video:

Barbara Shapel was a guest speaker last year at
Philomath, OR

A few of her designs are new to me...
It's FUN to draw them out and see what I can do!

Sketch Book......Fern Motif

In January I started piecing the Calypso Quilt
for our oldest son...

I started drawing FERNS in the Sketch Book:

My inspiration was Fiddle Head Ferns
that grow here in Western Oregon

We've been weeding the flower beds...

The chickens just love helping out with the weeding...

Blades of grass were gobbled up in the blink of an eye...

Silver Laced Wyandott

Freckles has been allowed to graze in the yard...
not much green grass in the pasture this time of year.

Watering the flowers...

When you stand at just the right angle,
you can see the water spraying throughout the flower bed.

Sketch Book......McTavishing

I glanced through all of the sketch books
and found a few pages of
McTavish style quilting...

McTavishing...named after Karen McTavish
is a background fill design:

S Curves and Hair Band Shapes

This version is curly and playful

Playful and whimsical

Straighter S curves....more serious

Every time I draw this design.....it looks different.
I like that....it never gets boring.

It's that time of the year...

Firewood Cutting Season....

Taking the logs out behind the barn...

This is our temporary wood lot for the next few weeks...

Just outside the Thread Shed is a
hydrangea tree in full bloom

Buffalo Bull Fight......Video

This is an 8 minute video of a
Bison Bull Fight
in Yellowstone Park
August 2012

The Buffalo begin pushing each other around
3 minutes into the video

At one point the bulls are within 15 feet of our vehicle,
and my husband is worried they will cave in the side our pick up.

(I need to invest in a tripod so my video-ing
isn't so wobbly, but for now this is what I have)

Enjoy the Video:
