Did Santa forget one of his reindeer last night?
Enjoy the Video:
This is actually an elk calf
that has been living with our cow herd
the last several weeks.
Not sure what happened to its' mama?
It feels safe with the cows and doesn't seem
to mind the Cowboy and I feeding the cattle
each morning.
We are hoping an elk herd passes through soon
that this calf can join up with.
Merry Christmas with Love

Merry Christmas to you and the cowboy! Maybe the elk has decided to be a cow. Nice protected environment where someone feeds you regularly. What's not to like?
ReplyDeleteHi Virginia,
DeleteWe enjoy seeing the elk calf each morning when we feed the cattle. He seems right at home. He picked the right pasture!

LuAnn
Merry Christmas LuAnn. I have never seen an Elk calf before. Interesting how it has bonded with your cows. I too hope it will pair up with any Elk that come by your property. My BIL, on Whidbey Island, WA has an elderly Elk that comes by his property often. It is the only Elk on Whidbey Island and supposedly came as a young guy. Sad that it has lived the majority of his life w/o other Elk. But he is quite big and so beautiful it is always fun to see him walk thru my BIL's property, when we are visiting. Your Elk Calf certainly seems to be paying more attention to you than your cows. Very alert, which is a good sign his natural instincts are doing what they need to do.
ReplyDeleteWe are enjoying the elk calf in the mornings. Yes, they are herd animals and are much happier when they are together in a group. I suppose that is why he joined up with a herd of cattle....beats being alone.

Merry Christmas from Texas where we have 80 degrees at this time. Thank you for all the sharing you do in the quilting area, but I enjoy so much reading about your life on the ranch and seeing all your animals. I know it is a hard life, but you have so much energy and such a relationship with the Cowboby, that I am in owe all the time. Annick H.
ReplyDeleteThank You Annick for your always kind and thoughtful comments.

ReplyDeleteHi Robbie, yes, so glad the little elk calf isn't alone. He will find an elk herd to run with eventually....there are quite a few that live year round here in our little valley.
