Calving Season....2018

The Morning....walk-through

Each day when we get over to the cow barns,

we walk through the herd of

expectant mama cows

to check for new calves and to see

what cows are in labor...

The cowboy checks on the cows

in the upper pasture...

I drive down below and check on the cows

in the lower pasture...

We had twins born yesterday:

Twin Heifer Calves

Calf Number 3..... and Calf Number 4

We will keep them penned off with their mama

for a few days...

then turn them out with the herd.

Below is a video of the twin calves:

Buttons....Wine Glass Charms

A couple weeks ago I sorted my buttons...

Here they are on the jewelry table...

ready to play!

Here is my first button creations:

Wine Glass Charms...

2 sets of Wine Glass Charms!

Yes, these were FUN!

Go Make Some...

Below is a video of the yearling cattle.

They crossed the river below the house to eat

the grass along the river bank.

It was going to rain, the river will rise

and they will be stranded on the opposite side,

so we had to herd them back over to our side:

Snow...

We woke up to a dusting of snow...

The little yellow building in our yard

is the Thread Shed

This is where the hum of a sewing machine

can be heard...

Along side of the Thread Shed is a

Camellia bush....it always blooms in February.

This is the view out the back door...

you can see the cow barns

in the center of the photo.

This is the view out the front door...

Black yearling calves waiting for breakfast.

Here's the hay wagon:

Breakfast is on the way!

The cowboy feeds off the back... while I drive.

After the hay is fed,  we take a walk-through

to check on the calves to be sure everyone

is eating and looks healthy.

This is our 2017.... Calf Number 1

He just turned 1 year old this week!

Morning Chores...

This is what greets me each morning

out @ our little red barn...

Nanny Goats and Nanny Kids...

I begin and end each day with these sweeties!

After the goats are fed,

We load up the hay wagon and

feed 57 head of yearling cattle:

They eat 600 lbs of hay each morning.

Then we head across the river to the cow barns:

The first thing we do is walk through the barn to

check on the 50 pregnant cows...

and look for any new baby calves.

Then we head down to the lower barn

to check on the replacement heifers:

This is my favorite heifer, Golden Girl

This is Golden Girl....2 years ago:

She will be having her first baby in a few months.

Calving Season....2018

It's official...

Calving Season has begun here @ Kessi Farms

Look what we found at the cow barn

this morning...

Calf Number 1

How cute is this little bull calf

standing by his mama?

The low man gets to bed the barns...

it looks like that is me.

I use the motorcycle to transport straw bales to

all of the barns.
