Painting the Palace...

This is what I have been up to...

It doesn't involve a sewing machine!

Camping.......Quilter Style

I am a Quilter who loves to camp...

All the comforts of home...

Really......ALL the comforts of home:

The camp trailer table

is the perfect home for the Singer 185K

The table is tiny,

but there is plenty of room for everything I need...

Camping brings out the improv piecing in me...

Quilting......no reason to leave it at home!

Fantasy Fish.....Borders

Let's get some sort of border treatment

on the Fantasy Fish...

The roll of Steam A Seam is still on the Big Board...

Let's fuse some border fabrics!

Slice the fabrics into triangles...

Triangle shapes on the edge of the fish quilt...

I like this......I will keep going with it.

They are wonky triangles...

Free-hand cut triangles.....placed at wonky angles.

They give a sense of playfulness to the fish.

Let's give Red Fish some borders:

Choose border fabrics...

Cut the border fabrics into 3 inch strips:

Place the strips on the fusible

or sticky side of the Steam A Seam Lite 2

Press or iron the strips onto the fusible web...

Cut the fused strips apart...

Layer the strips and free hand cut them into triangles...

Place the triangles on the edges...

Peel the release paper off the back of the triangles...

Iron the triangles onto the quilt top...

Trim off the rough edges and square up the quilt...

Red Fish is ready for a binding treatment.

Orange and Pink Fish

Green and Purple Fish

Blue Fish

I plan to do a bit more top stitching...

then get fast fused bindings on these fish.

More to come...

Fantasy Fish......Quilting

It's time to get the fish backgrounds...

under the needle

Auditioning Quilting Threads...

I've decided to go with shiny threads...

Rayons...

Metallics...

Let's get this party started!

I am quilting soft, wavy lines to emulate the water...

I have 4 different backgrounds to quilt...

Rather than free motion quilt...

I am using a walking foot today.

I am assembly line sewing the backgrounds...

There are less thread color changes that way.

I think I better stop...

the backgrounds have plenty of stitching on them:

Background 1

Background 2

Background 3

Background 4

Time to fuse the fish...

The press works nicely to fuse down the fish

Here they are ready for the next step...

After I topstitch on the fish...

I will need to dream up a border/edge treatment.

More to come...
