For the last two weeks I have been Rust Dyeing…
I need more rust dyed fabric
for my Barn Lot Quilt Series…
The rust dyeing process
takes about 3 days in warmer weather…
Then I hang it to dry for a day
to set in the rust on the fabric…
Just love that lovely rusted fabric!
I have made 5 batches of rust fabric….2 yards each
Rusted Fabric……Backlit from the morning sun
Gunnr is showing off the Rusty Fabric
After washing and drying….the fabric is lighter:
The rusting varies with each batch
This is a 2 yard piece hanging off the big board…
Close Up View of Rusted Fabric…
The fabric remains soft…
Looks like you could just scratch off that rust…
I only leave the fabric to batch for 3 days so I don't get any
rusty build up on the surface of the fabric…
I want it to remain soft.
The fabrics vary quite a bit…
This one is much darker…
10 yards of rusted fabric…
I am ready to get back to the Barn Lot Series…
Morning sunrise in the back yard today…
Gunnr and Brad are loading up this morning…
time to feed the livestock.
Gunnr loves to feed the cattle and goats…
Off they go!
