Snow...2019

We woke up to a world of white

here in Western Oregon

View out the living room window...

We will be heading out to do 

chores in the snow...

across the river are the calving barns.

The calves are due in 2 weeks.

In our yard...

We are now across the river,

heading over the hills to the cow barns

to feed the mama cows...

You can see our red barn across the river

@ our place...

These mama cows will be having

their babies very soon.

After all of the cattle are fed,

I head up to the Quilt Palace

to meet up with the Harlan Valley Quilters

This hand pieced hexagon quilt is basted

and ready to machine quilt...

My Floral Monet quilt is also basted and

ready to go under the needle.

I spent the afternoon varnishing 

these two cupboards.

Lots of drawers for storing quilting supplies...

I am jazzed!

Hexagon Table Runner....

It's time for a new...

Take-A-Long Project

Hexagons.....always a favorite to hand piece

This is what 170 hexagons looks like

This is how big they are...

A hexagon is measured by one of the sides...

1  1/2 inches along one of the 6 sides

I use a glue stick to baste the fabric to the 

paper hexagon

I am using 20+ fabrics...

some of them are my hand dyes

some of them are commercial batiks

they are all bright and cheerful...

which I need on these gray, rainy days of winter

here in Western Oregon

This table runner will brighten up our kitchen

And so it begins...

so far, the fabrics are getting along...

this color story is working...

I will keep going

The runner will be 16 inches wide

I will be taking this with me when I travel,

so I pinned the hexagons 

to a piece of muslin...

The hexagons will stay in order

as I sew them...

they will NOT be sewn to the muslin

16 x 66 inches

My painted canvas bag

is just the right size to carry the

hexagon table runner.

Working Cattle....Weaning Calves

We weaned the main herd of calves

back in November.

Now we are weaning the late calves

born to the young heifer cows...

Running the cattle into the corral...

Using the tailgate on the pick up as our 

work table.

We are vaccinating the cattle.

This is the new squeeze chute...

it has a self-catch head gate.....it ROCKS !

This is one of our oldie goldie cows...Dulcey,

she has been running with the heifers.

We worked the cows through the chute first,

then turned them out back into the pasture.

Here are their calves:

The calves were born late last Summer,

so they are younger than the rest of our 

Spring calves.

After all of the calves were vaccinated,

we loaded them up in a trailer and

hauled them up river...

The calves will live in this barn for 

a week to 10 days

until they are weaned...

Barn Lot Quilts.....On Exhibit

Willamette Valley Quilt Festival

Albany, Oregon

February 1-2, 2019

I attended the quilt show today...

100 Years' Gatherin's

such FUN to view the barn lot quilts

hanging as a group...

These are definitely quilts that men just love...

after all of the men cleared away,

I was able to get a photo.

This is only the second year for the

Willamette Valley Quilt Festival

and it rivals any big quilt show you will attend.

You can view all of the amazing quilts

for one more day, tomorrow.
